He decided this would be a great opportunity to raise some money for a great cause. He’s running for The Biggart Hospital, Prestwick. His Great Aunt passed away in April of this year and she was care for by the nurses and volunteers there. Well done!
Hazel from P6A won a bronze medal at JKS Scotland kumite competition. She is competing every weekend this month with the JKS Scotland Squad.Good luck and well done .
During October Nathan from P2CN took part and completed a 30mile walking challenge. He actually finished early on the 15th of the month. He walked to and from school every day and joined in with family walks as I ( his Mum) was completing the Race at Your Pace 300 mile walking challenge for October and Nathan wanted to take part to so joined the children’s challenge. This week we are very proud of our pupils who have achieved awards out of school.
Blair from P3C joined Dean Thistle football club in April and loves it. Since then he has received 3 Gold Awards for different things such as scoring goals and displaying good team work.
Lewis from P4M recently had a taekwondo grading and he passed. He is now a yellow belt. He is also in Beavers and he will be moving up to the Cubs after the October holidays. Lewis has also become a Lodge Leader.
Emily from P6A has been doing gymnastics for a couple of years now and loves it. She has moved up a few levels since joining and is always doing hand stands and head stands in the house to practise.
She is also a member of The Little Art School. She recently got moved up to intermediate level and one of her paintings from last session was displayed on the club’s Facebook page. It demonstrated how well she used the watercolours in the painting. She has so many paintings there isn’t enough room to hang them all.
Sophia from P7M achieved her Bikeability Award . Well done
Ella from P2E has achieved her Level 1, Little Tiger Cubs orange stripe at Taekwondo.
Andrew P7A led the church in prayer at Harvest Service on Sunday for the first time. He had volunteered himself and practised all week at home and in the church itself and had lots of well done afterwards.
Georgie from P7A started ballet classes aged 3. Since then, she has progressed through the world renowned RAD ballet syllabus. During this progress, Georgie has worked very hard and shown determination to strengthen her core, legs and feet resulting in her now gaining her first pair of pointe shoes. A huge achievement in ballet.
Hazel from P6A achieved her 2nd kyu grade (brown and white belt) in karate on Saturday. On Sunday she competed, and although she didn’t win any medals this time, she was competing up a level and performed very well against very tough and experienced competitors and managed to beat a very experienced black belt who has achieved success in European competitions.
Gracie from P1S started gymnastics in June and has received 2 awards – Super Stretcher and Gym Star. She has been practising lots and showing off her new skills to her family.

Onthank’s Got Talent – Thursday 22 June @ 6.30pm
Families,
‘Onthank’s Got Talent’ is back and we are excited to share information with you.
We are always amazed at the talent within #OurOnthank community and what better way to showcase this, than in an end of year performance!
How will OGT work?
Young people are invited to decide what talent they are going to showcase and prepare a short 1 minute audition. Auditions will be performed on Friday 9 June for the whole primary stage, for example, if you are in P1 you will showcase your talent for all four of the P1 classes.
FOLLOW THE LINK TO SIGN YOUR CHILD UP FOR OGT AUDITIONS:
https://forms.office.com/e/t9vJYmhyjd
Please complete the short ‘Audition Sign Up’ form by Wednesday 7 June.
After the auditions have taken place, 2 winners from each class will be selected by the young people and staff from that stage with classes voting for each other and celebrating their achievements. Class teachers will be given 1 Golden Buzzer in addition to this to use for a young person from a different class.
Thursday 22 June (during school hours) – The 2 winners and Golden Buzzer winners from each class will perform their talent at our whole school assembly. Along with special guest judges, we will all vote for our school daytime champion.
Thursday 22 June @ 6.30pm – Families, friends and community members are invited to this celebration performance where all class winners and Golden Buzzer winners will perform for you. Audience vote alone will select our evening champion.
We want to remind our young people taking part in OGT is voluntary and not something everyone must do. Any young people not wishing to perform a talent or participate will form part of our cheering audience.
More information will be issued following your class win for the final performances.
We can’t wait to celebrate the wonderful talent at Onthank Primary School!

Families,
As part of a class project, P2C will be opening our very own ‘Clothing Stars’ Shop here in the school. #ShopWithUs Let’s tell you more about it!
What we need? – P2C are warmly inviting our whole school community to kick start your Spring Clear Out and donate any items of clothing/shoes/accessories that you no longer wear/need/want to our shop. Our shop hopes to sell items for the whole family, from adults to children – all clothing styles/ages warmly received.
When can you donate? – Our shop supervisor (Mrs Cohen!) will be accepting donations on Mon 27 Feb, Tues 28 Feb and Wed 1 March. Although young people are not in school next Tues/Wed you are invited to drop donations into our Main Office. All items will be washed before ‘re-sale’.
Why has our shop opened? – P2C wish to support the community and tackle clothing recycling, also in line with our Clean Green Ayrshire mission. P2 created this idea to support Fairtrade Fortnight, during which our shop will operate.
Shop Opening Times:
Friday 3 March 9.15am – 9.45am
Monday 6 March 9.15am – 9.45am
Wednesday 8 March 9.15am – 9.45am
Friday 10 March 9.15am – 9.45am
Our shop can be extended at the need and request of our community.
How do I pay for items?
This is the best part! Anyone visiting our shop will be provided with Monopoly money upon arrival to purchase items. Our P2 Shop Assistants will develop their numeracy skills linked to money while operating our till.
Who can come to our shop?
EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT ‘THE CLOTHING STARS’ SHOP. Come and find the best bargain in town and find your Spring/Summer wardrobe with us.
We can’t wait to welcome #OurOnthank Community.
Thank you from Mrs Cohen & P2C

Families,
You may remember last year Onthank Primary was the only school in East Ayrshire to be awarded the Bronze and Silver Awards for our contribution to Clean Green EA. Now on our journey for Gold, we join our wider community and local schools on a united ‘Mission to the Moon’.
So, what does this mean?
We have been challenged to walk/scoot/cycle the 238,855 miles from Earth to the Moon as part of EA’s Active Travel initiative.
How can I #GetInvolved?
As a family, think about how you travel to and from school. Could you start:
As a school, this would also help keep our car park safer and less crowded – let’s do it!
How do I log my progress?
We have made a simple form for you to keep track of your progress. Simply complete it at the end of every week and submit to the school. Your family can log their progress too!

Do I HAVE to participate?
Joining our Mission to the Moon is voluntary and not required. We believe this initiative will help promote active travel to/from school and want to be the first school to land on the Moon. Help us and become more active along the way! You could also send your family walking selfies to Mr Swan 🙂

Families,
We are excited to share on behalf of our Parent Council their ‘Sponsored READ-A-THON Challenge’ to celebrate World Book Day (Thursday 2 March), promote reading in school and at home and raise funds for new library/topic books for our young people.
Our Pupil Council and RRS Ambassadors will chat with their classes and pupil voice will inform what books are purchased.
What do you need to do?
Starting from today (03.02.23) for the next four weeks until World Book Day (02.03.23) we want to see how many books/pages our young people can read independently or together with family members as a happy, shared experience.
Families are invited to set a book reading target and kindly request sponsorship from family and friends to contribute towards the £20.23 target each class within the school have been set to raise by the PC. Any contribution towards this whole class target is appreciated.
Keep a note at home of the book titles and how many pages you have read and our ‘READ-A-THON Online Form’ will be sent at the end of the month for you to complete. In school reading will be noted by staff/pupils and added to overall totals. Prizes await the top overall class and top reader!
Funds raised can be paid via ParentPay or handed in to the school office.
Participation and sponsorship is optional.
Our Parent Council share their thanks and hope you enjoy quality reading time with your family. We can’t wait to follow your READ-A-THON journey!

Primary 2 pupils performed their Nativity – The Inn Crowd to a packed audience. They were superstars and did a fantastic job singing, dancing and acting. They made everyone feel very Christmassy. Well done to everyone for their superb effort. ⭐️👏
