MILD CHALLENGE
Make cards and write each of the spelling and common words on them. Can you say each of the words when your Homework Buddy shows them to you.

SPICY CHALLENGE
Write a sentence for three of your “au” words – try to include any common words you know from previous homework tasks too. (Remember a capital letter, finger spaces, sensible spelling and a full stop or other punctuation to complete good sentences please.)

HOT CHALLENGE

You can order words in the same order as the alphabet, this is called Alphabetical Order. You can do it in Ascending order which means starting from the beginning of the alphabet and writing each word in the same order as the alphabet. You can do it in Descending order which means starting from the word closest to the end of the alphabet then writing each word in the order of the alphabet returning down to A.

Write the spelling and common words in Ascending alphabetical order.

NUMERACY HOMEWORK TASKS

We know a lot about Place Value now and we can use this knowledge to put numbers that don’t normally sit next to each other into an order. Ascending order means starting with small numbers then ordering them to a higher number. Descending order means starting with the highest number and writing the other numbers counting down to the smallest number. Try some of these activities out.

MILD CHALLENGE

Write these numbers in ascending order in your jotter.

  •     4    1    7    3    8

  •     6    3    9    7    2

  •     17    2    13    5    3

  •     11    6    18    4    16

Write the same numbers in descending order in your jotter.

SPICY CHALLENGE

Write these numbers in ascending order in your jotter.

  •     14    11    17    13    18

  •     16    13    19    17    12

  •     17    12    13    15    19

  •     11    16    18    14    16

Write the same numbers in descending order in your jotter.

HOT CHALLENGE

Write these numbers in ascending order in your jotter.

  •     44    51    72    36    18

  •     63    36    90    76    22

  •     17    23    39    52    37

  •     11    64    18    48    76

Write the same numbers in descending order in your jotter.

OTHER CURRICULAR AREAS HOMEWORK TASKS

Make a poster to help children keep safe with medicines and dangerous bottles in the home. Remember to make your poster BOLD and eye-catching, make important information STAND OUT!

Is the weather nice outside? If you are allowed, go outside and try to make a piece of art using natural items like leaves, stones, twigs etc.

Get creative, can you think of other arty ideas? Share them in school and perhaps your friends might try them out too.

Well done for completing your homework this week!

Highland Games Highlights

What’s the weather to be like on Friday?

Terrible…

Wet…

Torrential rain….

Was that hail outside?

Dreich…

Did someone say snow? But it’s March!…

Should we just postpone?

No one was more surprised with our Scottish weather than all of the Primary 2 teachers on Friday morning last week! It was a close call but we were delighted that the weather stayed dry enough for us to go ahead with our much anticipated Highland Games. The pupils had a fabulous time and they competed amazingly well.

Click the video link below to see the highlights of our surprisingly dry day.

Congratulations to everyone involved and well done to our winning clan!

HOME LEARNING WEEK BEGINNING: 15.02.21

We hope you have all had a good few days off with your families. Due to the February holiday we only have two days of school this week. There will be no VScene calls or Pupil of the Day this week but our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has decided that we should return to school on Monday.

We’re delighted to welcome you all back and in the meantime, Homework Buddies, could you please help us to prepare the children for their return.

The Management Team have requested the following:-

How can I help?

As a final helpful list to parents, can you please support us by:

· Reinforcing hygiene measures and social distancing with your child(ren).

· Having your child(ren) bring tissues to school to capture any coughs or sneezes.

· Ensuring your child does not bring unnecessary items to school.

· Reinforcing positive, safe relationships between all children and our staff.

· Dropping your child off at school gates and allowing them to enter the playground area independently.

· Understanding that we are not permitted to allow visitors in school buildings, other than in emergency or other exceptional circumstances.

Until then kids, we want you to have some fun activities and tasks to do which will remind you about how to keep safe on our return. You can have a look through the Learning Grid to see what activities you could complete and then send them on to your class teacher.

HOME LEARNING – WEEK BEGINNING: 08.02.21

Well done, Primary 2! Your teachers are loving all the fantastic work you have been sharing and we want to encourage you to keep it up.

Thank you to all Homework Buddies who completed the survey on remote learning. We appreciate your feedback and in response to this have made some changes which you will be able to see over the coming weeks.

We’ve seen so many great pieces of work this week and wanted to ask, if you had made a poster about a Scottish animal, could you please keep your poster safe and bring it into school when we’re allowed to be back together again. Your teachers would love to put them up on the wall to show off all your great research skills!

Each week your class teacher emails out names for Pupil of the Day.

Could we remind you to fill in the form contained in the email link and return it before the Sunday of that week so a personalised certificate can be created for each Pupil of the Day from their friends.

These really cheered the pupils up last week.

Random Act of Kindness Day

Usually we give you a task to help out at home or to help learn a life skill but this week we have something a little different. We have been doing lots of work on kindness throughout this year but there is a day where we celebrate this nationally and this week sees the Random Act of Kindness Day for 2021. It would be lovely to see you all carry out a random act of kindness for someone with the hope of putting a big smile on their faces, especially during these challenging times.

Click on the links below to access the LIVE learning sessions provided by East Ayrshire council. On School Hub days we’ve logged in to the dance session on a Tuesday and it has been great fun trying to keep up!

Please check out the sessions if you need a break from the Learning Grid.

HOME LEARNING WEEK BEGINNING 01.02.21

It is now February and to begin this week’s blog we would like to say a massive THANK YOU and WELL DONE to everyone who submitted a Scottish Poem in honour of Burn’s Day 2021.

It wasn’t our usual celebration but we want to say CONGRATULATIONS to Macie from Mrs Saxelby’s class for being our overall Primary 2 WINNER!

It was a delight to watch you recite and perform your poem to the audience who attended the Scottish Quiz on Friday evening. It truly was an enjoyable night and if you enjoy a quiz we would most definitely recommend joining the Zoom call the next time one is organised by Mr Swan!

East Ayrshire Council have again organised VScene activities that you can opt to join throughout the week. Check the following Links for further information.

For those of you that have laced up shoes at school, we would like you to begin learning to tie your laces. The teachers are always very grateful if they have helpers who can help with tying shoes. We’re very proud of every one of you who are able to tie your own shoes. Let’s use Lockdown 2021 to learn this vital skill! Practise every day and before you know it, you’ll be able to tie your own laces!

We know there is a lot of hard work going on in all the P2 households and your teachers THANK YOU for all your fantastic efforts!

We always love to hear from you, so whether it is work from the learning grid, worksheets you have, colouring books, photos of games you’re playing at home or walks in the park then please email them to your teacher.

There is a wealth of learning happening in your home that you won’t even appreciate is having an impact on you! Remember, all work and no play is not the plan for the week. Take time out to spend time with your loved ones!

HOME LEARNING WEEK BEGINNING 25.01.21

We’ve all had another busy week so well done for getting online and getting the activities done. Your teachers are delighted with all of the school work you are sending to us by email. It has been really special reading emails that you have sent to us yourselves! Keep that up as it really does bring a smile to our faces! 😍

The change in format from week one home learning has been dramatic! Mrs Wright has send a survey out to ask for your views and feedback about remote learning. Please take the time to fill it out.

It’s important to note that we have provided a range of activities to suit as many learner’s needs and styles as we would in class. It is therefore important that you try and complete some of the suggested Learning Grid tasks to keep up to date with the new learning even if you only have time to focus on some of the literacy and numeracy suggestions. Some parents have asked about what and when to send completed work. We would say it is entirely up to you. If you want to pick favourite pieces of work to email once they are done or once the week’s activities are complete we will provide feedback when we can. The choice is up to you and whatever suits your family circumstances. We’re just delighted that you’re sending us work and notes to keep us up to date with how you’re getting on.

One of the newest things we were trying out was how to do a Live chat with everyone. For those of you trying to log in with Mrs Kidd we had an extra tricky job as VScene had updated their system the night before to improve problems they were having with the volume of calls being experienced and this led to some confusion with the links. We’ll try again next week! Well done to all the other classes who managed to get logged on and speak with their teacher. Sessions will be booked for this week and sent to you. (Hopefully no updates this week to upset the apple cart!)

Today is Burns Day and we would be delighted if you were able to send us a video of the poem you selected for the competition Mr Swan has organised. We need to find a class winner so send any entries to your class teacher in an email by itself so we can forward it straight to Mr Swan.

Family Fun with East Ayrshire Live.

The following links have been sent to us with an offer of Live activities organised by East Ayrshire Council. You can log into these via VScene. These activities are optional and should offer something a little different so you can enjoy time with your family as you have a break from your Learning Grid tasks.

EA Live Family sessions wk 1

Live sessions Parent -carer Guidance Document

Primary 2 staff would like to remind you that we are providing new teaching and learning content through Glow and where possible you should try to access this regularly to complete the assigned tasks. We can appreciate that the technology can be frustrating particularly when the video links struggle to open for you. The following advice has been given to us:

  • Plug your laptop directly into your internet router with a cable so it is not relying solely on the wifi connection.

  • When looking up the internet to search for Glow or complete Bug Club books – use Google Chrome as your search engine as it supports all the functions required.

  • Before needing to use a video, click on it, to allow it to download. We are having issues in school with this too, however, clicking on it three times and allowing it to buffer slightly then restarting has solved the problem for us more often than not.

  • If using VScene on a phone or tablet you will need to download the app.

Please hang on in there, we’re trying very hard to help to stay connected effectively!

Term 2

Welcome back!

Normally we have lots of celebrations, but this year we may have to get creative. Once we have more information we will let you know what we are going to do for Hallowe’en and Christmas.

In the meantime, please keep checking into the homework menu tab above for suggested homework ideas.
