Numeracy

Lots of our numeracy and maths activities will be explored through experiential, hands-on learning opportunities. It will be important for your child to be aware of the following:

• counting up and down to 20 in 1’s.
• counting with 1-1 correspondence by pointing to objects individually in turn and orally counting in 1s. Discourage pointing at objects and saying more than one number at a time.
• find the number before and after. Initially this will be within numbers to 20 but will progress to within 100 quickly.
• beginning to count using patterns of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
• the order of the days of the week.
• the order of the months of the year.
• the order of the seasons of the year.
