HOMEWORK WEEK BEGINNING 9.11.20

Reminders:

  • Our football sessions will take place outdoors again on 9th November and 16th November so please send additional clothes for pupils to change into in case they get wet.

  • If you still have the orange permission slips for school trips to complete then please be sure to send them back to school ASAP.

  • It is Children In Need day this Friday 13th November. Pupils can come dressed down in spots and any donations can be made through Parent Pay or in a sealed envelope/bag. Donations will be split between the Children In Need charity and also Onthank Primary School to enable us to buy resources to support the pupils’ curriculum.

LITERACY IDEAS

After discussions during parents’ evening calls,  it is really important for you to get reading as much as you can at home, to help practise all the sounds you are learning about in class.

– TASK

Log into Bug Club and read two titles this week. Remember to do ALL of the bugs and that their eyes CLOSE so you get a new book to read.

As part of our spelling and reading programme it is really important to be able to read and spell the common words that we see and use all the time.

– TASK

Use the double sided sheet your teacher sent home with you to practise reading and writing the common words from Stage 1. Keep this sheet at home and make sure you really know the words on it from Primary 1. This may take you several weeks so be sure to look after your sheet. Knowing these words will really help you with your writing tasks in class.

NUMERACY IDEAS

– Watch this video

– Task

Write the number ONE MORE than each of these numbers into your jotter like this.

6 + 1 = 7

5          9          13          17          2

18          15          0          19          7

– Challenge

Click the link below to play a game about MORE or LESS.

Click the GREEN PLAY button above the game picture to start.

If you are confident adding or taking 1 within 20 you could select numbers up to one hundred. If you feel secure with one more and one less you could select to add or take ten.

Select the number range and the addition/subtraction type to suit your confidence and level of understanding.

OTHER CURRICULAR AREA IDEAS

– Task

Sometimes when we raise money for charity you don’t really understand what the money gets used for. Watch this video to show you some of the things your donation of money will help give to children around the country.

We’re going to be doing exercises in class. Try this video out each day so you can build up your stamina and skill. Doing 5 minutes of exercise a day will help you to feel good and perhaps concentrate better.

– Challenge

Think up other exercises that you know so we can make our own 5 minute class workouts. Remember it needs to be an activity that we can do standing on the spot and without equipment.

Remember on Friday to dress down wearing spots if you can. Any donations would be greatly received.

Have a good week and remember, do what you can, when you can because trying to do your homework regularly will help you to build your confidence and skill in class too.
