Class Update

Here is what we have been up to this week in P1/2:

In maths we created our own board game, practising number formation and counting. We played our games with friends in our class and later with our P6/7 buddies, too:

We also did lots of counting practice in our activities this week. P1s are getting to know numbers to 10 and P2s are revising numbers to 20.

In Literacy, P1s learned new sounds this week and practised writing their name. P2s wrote a description of the snake they made last week in our art activities and revised the sounds sh, ch and th.

In PE we continued to play team games. On Friday, children chose stations to practise some different ball and hoop skills.

Finally, here are some other activities we did this week, including making t-t-t-turtles to practise the t sound:

Counting Activity

At the moment, we are revising some of our maths skills that we have learned either in Primary 1 or in nursery. Here is an easy activity that you can do with your child at home, too.

Start by picking a number. Primary 1s can try numbers within 10 depending on their knowledge. You could also roll a die to decide on the number. Primary 2s should work with numbers to 20.

Now find the number that is 1 less than (or the number before) the one that your child has picked. Use pasta shapes, buttons, counters etc to count out that number. After that, do the same with the number 1 more than (or the number after).

This activity develops lots of skills including fine motor skills (you could use a pair of tongs to pick up the shapes but using fingers will be effective, too), counting and sequencing numbers.

Homework for Monday 9th September

This week we are practising some of our maths skills. We made a board game that you can play at home to practise counting (P1) and determining odd and even numbers (P2).

I have provided a small bag with counters and a die. You can keep the bag and game at home. The counters and die will be used throughout the year for different home activities.

Have fun with your homework this week!

Class Update

Thursday and Friday have been very busy for us and our P7 buddies! P2s also buddied up with some of our P6s:

We had a board games session to learn how to play some of the games we will be playing a lot as part of our learning activities. Our P7 and P6 buddies taught us how to play pairs, bingo, Ludo and Snakes and Ladders.

On Friday, our buddies prepared some outdoor activities for us. We had a great time, thank you so much to all of our buddies!

P1s spent lots of time practising their sounds this week. We sorted letters and practised letter formation. We also made a snake for our first sound and found s-words to stick on our snake.

We have had great fun in our PE lessons. We played some team games and worked together in stations. After such a busy week, we are all looking forward to a well deserved weekend!

Class Update

It has now been exactly one week of hard work and lots of fun for us in Primary 1/2 and we have had a great time so far. Here are some of the things we have been working on and learning this past week (click on the pictures to enlarge them):

We start every morning with planned activities that cover a range of skills and subjects including maths, literacy, topic and art. Children are encouraged to visit each station and can work with different people, helping them to get to know each other.

Primary 1s and 2s made some handprint art on their first day. The P2 handprints have been made into our class jobs. You will be able to see more of our classroom in a later post.

We have also practised our writing. P2s have written summer holiday news, while P1s drew lovely holiday pictures. P1s have also learned new sounds (s and a so far) and we have been practising to write these:

Our P7 buddies have been a great help. We have snack with them in the morning and they help us with other things, too, like reading to us, taking us for our mile walk in the playground and playing with us in the playground at break times.

It has been a great start to the year and I hope that everyone is enjoying it as much as I am ❤️

Welcome to Primary 1/2

I would like to welcome our new Primary 1s and their parents to our class blog. Welcome back to Primary 2s (I can’t believe how quickly they grow!).

We have had a wonderful first day back today, the kids were amazing and it was lovely to hear them chat about their summer holidays, and laugh and have fun together. It was a pity that the weather was so poor but we made the best of it.

I will post updates about our class and everything that is happening as soon as photo permissions have been given to ensure that everyone is happy for their child’s picture to appear on the blog.

We spent lots of time discovering the school and our classroom today. We also got to know each other, all Primary 2s were very responsible and looked after their new friends! Our P7 buddies joined us for snack time and helped us during our playtime in the playground. We had some time to explore the resources in our classroom and enjoyed some play. We also did some arts and crafts activities. At the end of the school day, a lot of us (me included 😂) were exhausted but everyone wanted to come back tomorrow!

Thank you to all the children for a fantastic first day! ❤️
