Homework for 29th January

Hello! Here is our homework for this week:

Primary 1

All pupils did a super job in their first spell check. I have included the spell check jotters in the packs for you to look at. Can you please make sure to return them with the homework on Monday in readiness for our next check up?

This week Primary 1s are learning the <ch> sound in spelling. Please do the same as last week. I have given you a bit more space this week and added the extra task of writing a simple sentence with a <ch> word, e.g. I chop a log. They should be words that your child can sound out him/herself.

In maths, we are now adding up to 10. Please complete the worksheet. Children can use the pictures or their fingers to help them add.

Primary 2

We are learning the <oi> sound this week. We have already identified many <oi> and <oy> words and were finding this quite tricky so please practise at home. This week we are building words using the worksheets in your spelling jotter. I have given you two sheets in case you can’t fit all of your spelling words on one sheet.

In maths, we are practising taking away from 20 this week. This can be a bit tricky and we are looking at not only counting back but also counting on if the numbers are close together, e.g. instead of trying to do 20-16, we count up from 16 to 20. There is also a game on the sheet. I have included two counters and a die in each homework pack. I would be grateful if these could be returned next Monday. Thanks!

Class Update

We have learned so much in class this week and have been working very hard.

The P1s learned their first spelling sound and, together with our P2s, we did lots of activities to practise spelling this week. Even our buddies helped us with our spelling practice! We also did lots of maths and we did some mat work in gymnastics this week. In art, we learned about portraits and drew lovely ones of Mrs Black (but this is our secret because Mrs Black doesn’t know about them and will get them for her retirement!).

Here are some pictures from this week:

Homework for Monday 22nd January

Hello,

This week we are back to “normal” with literacy and maths homework for everyone. Please continue to practise our poem and song, however, the class has been absolutely brilliant performing it so far. We had a few brave volunteers performing the poem to the class and they blew me away!

Primary 1

We have now learned all of our single sounds and are moving on to learning phonemes now. Our first phoneme sound is <sh>. Please complete the page in the blue spelling jotter. We will be doing our first spell check with the given 5 words next Monday. Children should therefore practise these words in particular but can draw a picture of any other <sh> word they can think of.

For maths, please complete the Home Activity sheet. We are practising to add up to 10 with doubles and near doubles.

Primary 2

We are learning the <ou> sound this week. Pupils have a new green jotter with our spelling activity for the week.

We are looking at subtracting from 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 this week. Please complete the Home Activity sheet.

Our gym days for this term have changed and are now Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are doing gymnastics. Girls should therefore have their hair tied back please and no watches or jewellery should be worn for PE.

Thank you ☺️

Class Update

It’s so nice to be back after our Christmas holidays and seeing all the boys and girls again. They have grown so much over just two weeks!

We have been so busy this week and have been working extra hard. In Literacy, P1s learned their last two letters “x” and “qu”. We made CVC words with them and practised writing the letters, too.

Primary 2s have been practising their new spelling sound <ow> in class this week since we are learning our Scottish poem and song for homework. We have been doing different activities to practise our spelling.

In PE, we have started practising our gymnastics skills. Our PE days are now Wednesdays and Thursdays with equipment being used on Wednesdays. We practise rolls, balances and jumps with mats on Thursdays.

We have also enjoyed our play activities in class this week. We read CVC words, added numbers, played rhyming words bingo and much more:

Homework for Monday 15th January

First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and welcome back!

This week we are preparing for our Burns Celebration later this month. Can everyone please practise the following Scottish poem and song:

Our poem this year is “The Wee Rid Motor”. You can watch a video of it being performed here.

The song we are singing this year is “Three Craws Sat Upon a Waw”. Click here to hear the song and sing along.

I have also given maths homework for Primary 1s and Primary 2s. Please complete the worksheet.

Merry Christmas!

We have had a great time in our class on the run up to Christmas. We have been busy learning through Christmas activities and doing lots of fun things in the class, with our buddies and even with the P3/4 class!

We had great fun at our Christmas party. The best thing was that Santa visited and we each got a wee present from him!

I also wanted to say a big THANK YOU for your very kind gift. It is very much appreciated and I loved everything that was in the basket, especially all the sheep items ☺️ The cup is just perfect and will forever remind me of my lovely class! Thank you!

I hope that you all have a brilliant Christmas and that you will enjoy the holidays. I can’t wait to see everyone again in the new year!

Homework until Christmas

As we are practising lots for our nativity performance at the moment, there will be no homework issued for the time being. Please continue to practise the lines with your child if they have some.

Please find below some games and websites that you could work on with your child if you would like to. We will still be reading as and when time allows. We are still doing lots of learning activities in the classroom and Primary 1s are continuing to learn their sounds.

Primary 1s

Literacy:

  • You can practise some simple tricky words by clicking here.
  • You can identify the initial sound, the middle sound or the end sound in this online game.
  • You can read CVC words in this game. Choose “1-3” and “Easy”. Click on the hook when the correct picture is underneath it.

Maths:

  • Practise adding within 10 by playing this robot game. Choose the red tab for adding and “up to 10”. Then choose how much you want to add.
  • This robot game is slightly harder. Choose “up to 10”.
  • You can practise numbers up to 10 and adding in this game. Choose any activities here within 10.

Primary 2s:

Literacy:

  • Practise your spelling and sentence construction in this karate cat game.
  • Practise the alphabet and putting words into alphabetical order here.
  • Practise some tricky spelling in this game.

Maths:

  • Go over adding again or practise subtraction in this game. Choose your own level.
  • Choose “+” or “-” in our train game to practise add and subtract.
  • “Count on and back” within “10 and 20” in our Blast Off game.

We are all also learning about 2D and 3D shapes this month so feel free to draw shape pictures or find shapes in your house by going on a shape hunt.

Class Update

It has been a very busy two weeks, so busy that I often forgot to take pictures. However, here are some pictures of the many activities we have done over the past two weeks.

We had another wonderful storytelling afternoon on Wednesday. Thank you so much to the mums and grans who came to read to us.

We are definitely ready for the weekend! Have a lovely time!

Homework for Monday 4th December

This week, Primary 2s have been given the lines that they need to learn for our nativity. Some Primary 1s also have a line or two to learn. Could you please practise these lines with your child at home. The children that did not get a line are learning a wee dance to perform.

Primary 1s have also been given a game to practise their sounding out and blending. I have included a die and two counters to allow you to play the game. Your child should read the words they land on. If they read it correctly, they can stay on that spot, if they read it incorrectly, they should move back three spaces.
