Homework for Monday 26th May

We are looking for card and other materials for our art area in our play base. Can your child bring in any empty cereal boxes or other packaging, cardboard tubes from paper towels, lids, small (clean) tubs etc as and when you have them? Thank you!

Primary 1

This week we are looking at <ee> which we often find in the middle of a word but also at the end. Please continue to practise your words using the Bingo sheet. You can keep your homework folder at home if you want and check the blog for the weekly spelling words.

In maths, we are now looking at numbers to 20. You can practise ordering and sequencing numbers to 20 by playing Caterpillar Ordering.

Primary 2

We are looking at another silent letter sound this week; <kn>. Please practise your words using the activities from your Bingo sheet.

In maths, we have started to look at grouping and sharing as part of our work on division. You can play Doggy Division Dinners to practise a bit more.

Homework for Monday 19th May

I apologise for the late homework post!

First some important information:

Please note that our P.E. days are still on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

We are spending time outside almost daily to make the best use of the good weather. Your child can bring a hat to protect themselves from the sun. Please apply sunscreen in the morning. If your child brings sunscreen to school, they can apply it themselves and are not allowed to share it with others due to potential allergies. I hope the good weather will last for us to enjoy!

Primary 1

We are looking at <th> this week. Please practise your words using the Bingo sheet. You do not have to bring your homework folders to school and can just check the blog for the new words:

Primary 2

We are looking at <mb> this week. These words are a bit tricky so there are less to practise this week:

Homework for Wednesday 7th May

Primary 1

We are learning all about the <ch> sound this week. Please use your Bingo sheet to choose a new activity for practising your spelling words.

In maths, we are taking a closer look at the link between addition and subtraction. This can be quite a tricky concept to understand. You can play Number Fact Families at home for extra practice.

Primary 2

Our sound this week is <ow> (as in snow). This is quite tricky because we have only practised ow (as in owl) before now so make sure to practise your spelling words very carefully this week.

We are getting on well with practising the concept of multiplication in maths. We have tackled a variety of times tables using cubes so far and will start to learn the 2 x table this week. It would be great if you could practise your 2x table to home. You could make yourself some flashcards and see how quickly you can solve the sums or you can play Hit the Button. Just make sure that you choose ‘Times Tables’, then ‘Tables up to 10’ and finally ‘x 2’. You could also practise your 5 and 10x tables if the 2x table is too easy for you!

Homework for Monday 28th April

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and we are all ready for our last term of Primary 1 and Primary 2!

Here is our homework for this week:

Primary 1

We are now starting to learn more complex phonemes. Our first one will be <sh>. Please practise our words as usual using your “whiteboard”. You have also received a Bingo sheet. Please choose one activity each week to practise your spelling words. Colour in the box with that activity and return the sheet to me once you have completed all of the activities.

We are continuing to practise subtraction within 10 in our maths lessons. Topmarks has many good subtraction games that your child could play to practise their skills further.

Primary 2

In our spelling, we are looking at <ew> this week. Please use your old Bingo grid if you have not completed yours or the new one if you would like to start over.

We are learning all about the concept of multiplication this term. Coconut Multiples  is a  great game to practise specific times tables. We have been practising skip counting in 2s and 5s so this might be the best to start with. We are practising multiples up to 10.

No Homework

We are having a couple of very busy weeks at school a trip, our parents night and an Easter service. We will therefore not have any spelling or maths homework before the Easter holidays. I will still update and send home your child’s reading book for further practice.

Homework for Monday 24th March

Primary 1

We are continuing to practise all of our letter sounds this week. Please practise using the materials given to you last week. You can also play Balloon Phonics  to practise your sounds.

We are still learning all about subtraction but have also started to look at money and coins. Here are two games you can play to practise your skills:

Helicopter Rescue – Count on and Back within the 10 (1-10)

Coins Game

Primary 2

There will be no new spelling words this week. You can review all of our magic e words for some extra practice at home.

We are also looking at money at the moment. We are practising to make different amounts using coins. You can practise by playing Toy Shop Money Game.

Homework for Monday 17th March

Primary 1

We have now completed learning all of the sounds of the alphabet. We are now reviewing all sounds and practising to write words and sentences. Please do the following activities at home:

  1. Practise writing out letters on the alphabet mat. You can write the whole alphabet or choose a specific letter to practise.

2. Play a matching pairs game with our alphabet cards. You could first match all of the cards with the animal by looking at the beginning sound, e.g. elephant is matched with <e>. Then you can choose 6 to 10 pairs and play matching pairs with a partner.

We are continuing to practise taking away. You can play Robot More or Less. Choose “Less Than”, “Numbers to 10” and choose a number to take away.

Primary 2

We are looking at the last of our magic e phonemes this week: <e_e>. Our word list also includes a few commonly misspelled words to practise this week.

This week we are looking at measuring lengths of items. A good game to practise using and reading a ruler is Measuring in Cm. Level 1 measures to full cm, level 2 measures to 0.5cm.

Homework for Monday 10th March

Primary 1

This week we are taking a closer look at <qu> and we are revising <x>. Please practise your words for our spell check next week.

We have started to explore the concept of subtraction this week. You can practise some subtraction by playing this subtraction to 10 game.

Primary 2

This week we are looking at another magic e phoneme:  <a_e>. Please practise the following words:

P2s are currently revising 2D and 3D shapes. You could play Shifting Shapes to help with revision.

Homework for Monday 3rd March

I’m so sorry for the late homework post. We have been practising our spelling words in class so this will hopefully not be too much of an issue.

Primary 1

We are revising our last group of letters this week and our word list reflects our work in class. Please practise writing and reading your words as usual.

In maths, we are looking at number facts for 10. I have given you an envelope with number and picture cards as well as an overview of games that you can play with the cards to memorise number facts for 10.

Primary 2

We are continuing to explore the ‘magic e’, this week we are looking at <o_e>. Here are our words:

In maths, we have been skip counting in 2s (to identify odd and even numbers), 3s, 4s and 5s. We are also looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10. You could always practise this at home with your child. For rounding, we round down when a number ends in 1, 2, 3, and 4. We round up when a number ends in 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Homework for Monday 24th February

Primary 1

This week we are practising words that contain the letters y and z. We have been busy practising these sounds throughout last week and are now ready to use them in our CVC words.

In maths, we are looking at the story of 10 this week. It is very important that children know their number bonds of 10 and can recall them quickly. This will help their mental arithmetic in future years when we calculate with larger numbers. Quiz your child about the `”friendly numbers”, e.g. 6 and 4 or 2 and 8 etc.

Primary 2

This week we are looking at our first magic e phoneme. We are practising <i_e>.

Here are this week’s spelling words:

In maths, we are looking at ordering numbers to 100 from largest to smallest and vice versa. You can practise this by playing the caterpillar game.
