Another busy week is coming to an end. This week was Book Week Scotland and we did lots of reading and story activities.

We have been reading our own books in class, have shown off our favourite books and designed a new front cover for them. We wrote our own All About Me book and read it to our buddies. We also shared our favourite books with our buddies and they read them to us.

We did lots of spelling activities in Literacy this week. Primary 1s practised their CVC words and did a super job. Primary 2 learned a new spelling sound, too! We also did lots of different structured activities:

Week 8 Update

We have done lots this week in our class that we are keen to share with you! Even though this was the last week before the October holidays, we did not slow down and enjoyed the many different learning activities we had. Here is what we have been up to:

We have been practising throwing, catching and dribbling using beanbags, and this week, basketballs. The children have enjoyed the challenge of throwing the ball into our netball hoops and throwing and catching with a partner. We ended this term with a game of Dodgeball!

Primary 1s learned two new sounds this week (d and e). We’ve been practising letter formation by writing letters on our partner’s back and asking our partner to guess the letter. P1s also did a great job in their jotters and enjoyed a game of Connect 4 to practise our sounds! Meanwhile, Primary 2s further explored rhyming words and building sentences.

Here are some of this week’s activities:

On Thursday, P1s got the chance to read their new reading books to their buddies. The P7s were very impressed with the P1’s story telling. primary 2s also read to a partner and enjoyed each other’s books.

After such a busy term, we all deserve a relaxing holiday. We have been chatting about the holidays and all the kids are very excited. I hope everyone has a brilliant holiday and I can’t wait to welcome you back to our class when you return!

All the best from Mrs Kane

We have been doing lots of structured activities practising our sounds, fine motor skills, counting, number recognition and letter formation. Here are some pictures of our hard work:

We have been practising our writing this week. Primary 2s are working on adding more detail and Primary 1s have started to overwrite after giving me the sentences they wanted to write. Everyone did a fantastic job!

We also did lots of letter and word practice this week, especially in P1 where we started to read and make 2 letter and 3 letter words. Well done everyone!

Have a wonderful long weekend everyone!

Week 4 Update

Another week went by in a flash! Here is what we have been learning this week:

Primary 2s have been busy learning different strategies to add within 20. We were looking at “making a 10 and adding the rest” and used our 10 frame trains for some hands on practice. Well done Primary 2s!

Meanwhile Primary 1s learned all about the number 5. We did lots of number formation activities and counted lots of sets of 5. We enjoyed our workbook tasks too and everyone did a super job!

Primary 1s learned another two sounds this week (i and n) and we started writing simple sentences! What a fantastic job!

Primary 2s also practised some sentence writing using rhyming words. We practised our spelling words using magnetic letters.

We continued looking at our book “The Rainbow Fish” and spent some time discussing our favourite parts of the story. We then drew a picture of it. We also used our amazing drawings of fish from last week to create a Rainbow Fish collage using paint and tissue paper to make the background.

And we did our usual morning activities throughout the week. Here is what we did this morning:

Thank you for working so hard yet again everybody! I can’t wait for next week (a slightly shorter week). Have a lovely weekend!

Week 3 Update

It has been another busy week in Primary 1/2.

This week we focused on letter and number formation. Primary 1s also had opportunities to work on their fine motor skills by drawing patterns and tracing lines. We had lots of structured play and activities around number formation and everyone made great progress whilst enjoying themselves. On Friday, our P7 buddies helped us with our letter formation in the playground. P2s were challenged to write CVC words.

We have also been busy practising our writing and sounds. Primary 1s have learned two new phonemes (sounds) this week: t and p. Please continue to chat with your child about the sounds they know and reinforce them as often as possible at home. Here are some randomly chosen examples of what we did in our writing lessons this week:

In Art we practised adding detail to our pictures and following instructions by drawing our own rainbow fish. I was so impressed with all of the beautiful drawings and colouring! We will be making Under the Sea pictures with our fish next week.

Finally, here are some examples of some of our play activities:

I hope you have a great weekend and can’t wait to see everyone again on Monday!
