Homework for Monday 27th November

This week we are only doing Literacy homework.

Primary 1

We are consolidating our sounds this week in school and practising CVC words. At home, please practise writing the letter u on the sheet provided. You can use coloured pencils if you want and you can also go over each letter several times, creating a rainbow letter if you use different colours each time. You can also just use your handwriting pencil.

I have given you two word lists to practise words using our sounds from last week. Please practise making these words with your magnetic letters. Your helper can also make the word for you and ask you to sound it out and read it.

Primary 2

Our spelling sound this week is <ll> . Please practise your spelling words using our activities from the activity grid. In addition, please use your spelling worksheet to find rhyming words for each of your word. You can use the words from your word list as rhyming words or find new ones. I have included an example in the picture below.

Finally, we are having another storytelling afternoon next Wednesday (29th November). It was great to see so many storytellers the last time we did our storytelling afternoon. However, as I need to be able to plan the space and groups of children, it is important that I know in advance who will be attending to read a story. If you or a grandparent would like to read a story to us next Wednesday, could you please fill in the enclosed slip and return it to me by Monday 27th November. Thank you so much!

Class Update

Another busy week is coming to an end. This week was Book Week Scotland and we did lots of reading and story activities.

We have been reading our own books in class, have shown off our favourite books and designed a new front cover for them. We wrote our own All About Me book and read it to our buddies. We also shared our favourite books with our buddies and they read them to us.

We did lots of spelling activities in Literacy this week. Primary 1s practised their CVC words and did a super job. Primary 2 learned a new spelling sound, too! We also did lots of different structured activities:

In maths we were looking at creating bar graphs and pictographs this week. We did a class survey and made tally marks to record the number of votes:

This morning, Maidsafe came into school. We did an experiment and then we made beautiful Christmas trees with card, glue, salt and food colouring. Primary 3/4 helped us. We had great fun, thank you!

Have a great weekend!

Homework for Monday 20th November

Here is this week’s homework:

We are working on some data handling this week. We have already made a bar graph showing the weather from last week’s homework and are now going to count and record autumn pictures. Children should mark off the items they have counted and then fill the appropriate number of bars on their worksheet. P1 and P2 sheets are slightly different. Answers for the questions should be written next to the question or on the back of the sheet.

P1 Literacy

We have already looked at our new sounds <b> and <u> this week. P1s should colour all pictures starting with these sounds on their sheet. Feel free to choose any two colours to differentiate the sounds.

P2 Literacy

We are looking at the <ss> sound this week. Please encourage your child to practise their spelling words. The written activity is only one way of doing this, you can also do any of the grid activities in addition to the written practice. We will have our spell check on Monday.

Children will just need to write 3 simple sentences with a full stop. However, some may like a challenge and can try to use an exclamation mark or a question mark if they want.

Class Update

We have been keeping busy with lots of different activities this week. We have been practising rhyming words and CVC words as well as looking at initial sounds. Primary 1s are getting better and better at reading and writing CVC words, well done girls and boys.

Here are some pictures of our activities:

We also did lots of art activities over the last two weeks focusing on printing techniques using sponges, hands, fingers and cotton buds. We made beautiful autumn trees with colourful leaves and a poppy field for Remembrance Day.

Enjoy your weekend after such a busy week!

Homework for Monday 13th November

This week’s homework will focus on Literacy and our new topic. We are learning all about the 4 seasons, starting with autumn. We have already explored the signs of autumn and will be looking a bit more closely at our lovely autumn weather this week. Please read below for details:

Primary 1 Literacy:

This week we are learning the sounds <f> and <o>.  Please use the magnetic letters to practise the CVC words that I have included in the homework folder. You could also set the words out yourself and ask your child to read the word or draw a picture of it.

Primary 2 Literacy:

This week’s spelling sound is <y> sounding /ee/ at the end of a word. Please practise the spelling words by doing “Roll a Rainbow” activity. Work through the word list and write each word once using the key at the side of the sheet. Then start at the top of your word list again and work your way down it. Do this until you have filled all of the lines. I have included a die for everyone in their homework folders, please ensure to return the dice with your homework next week.

Our spelling words this week are:

happy, very, funny, sunny, party, story, rainy, body, angry, carry, puppy.

Primary 1 and 2 topic homework:

For topic, please help your child to fill in the weather chart. Please help your child to choose the best icon to represent the weather. If it is for example partly sunny with clouds, choose one of the icons to keep it simple.

Week 8 Update

We have done lots this week in our class that we are keen to share with you! Even though this was the last week before the October holidays, we did not slow down and enjoyed the many different learning activities we had. Here is what we have been up to:

Primary 1s learned two new sounds this week (d and e). We’ve been practising letter formation by writing letters on our partner’s back and asking our partner to guess the letter. P1s also did a great job in their jotters and enjoyed a game of Connect 4 to practise our sounds! Meanwhile, Primary 2s further explored rhyming words and building sentences.

Here are some of this week’s activities:

On Thursday, P1s got the chance to read their new reading books to their buddies. The P7s were very impressed with the P1’s story telling. primary 2s also read to a partner and enjoyed each other’s books.

After such a busy term, we all deserve a relaxing holiday. We have been chatting about the holidays and all the kids are very excited. I hope everyone has a brilliant holiday and I can’t wait to welcome you back to our class when you return!

All the best from Mrs Kane
