Homework for Monday 16th September

Primary 1

Literacy

Let’s go on a sound hunt this week. So far, we have learned the sounds   s  /   a   /   t   /   p    and    i  .

Children should find 3 things around the house and garden that start with each of these sounds? <i> may be a bit tricky, don’t worry if you can’t find 3 items that start with that sound. You could also have a look around when you go for a walk or a drive.

Ask your child to draw the 3 items on the homework sheet. An adult could add the word below the picture. Please return the completed sheet in the wee homework pack on Monday.

Maths

We will be practising to write and count 4 and 5 this week. Children could be challenged to find 4 or 5 different items around the house. Count the items with them to give your child lots of practise of counting.

A good online game to practise sequencing numbers to 10 is Caterpillar Ordering. Choose “Sequencing” and “1-10”.

Primary 2

Literacy

All P2s have received a homework folder.

Please keep this homework folder at home with you. It will help you to do your spelling homework this year. You have a “whiteboard” with a blank side as well as a lined side in it. At the bottom of the lined side, you have lines to practise your spell checks which we will do every Monday in class. Choose one spelling activity from the spelling bingo grid each week to help you practise your spelling words. You can of course do more than one, but please only colour one activity in your bingo grid each week.

This week we are revising <ng> and <wh>. Please practise the following words:

ring                      whip

song                      whisk

long                      when

sting

thing

sing

bring

Maths

We have started to practise adding within 20. A good game to practise this with on the ipad or a phone is Robot Addition. Choose “up to 15” and encourage your child to use the number line at the bottom to help their calculations. Children could also “put the number in their pocket” and count on.
