The Giraffe group have been learning about shapes this week.  We used the smart board to play a shape matching game and everyone did super work.

We explored our names, using play dough to form the letters.  We practiced rolling the dough in our hands to make it long enough to use to make the letters.  The children spoke about the texture of the dough in their hands.

A big well done to our star of the week LUCAS!

We are all so proud of you!

This week the giraffes have been working hard on our attention and listening skills.  We have been trying so hard to concentrate and use our listening ears at group time.  Here we are listening and following instructions while playing with the musical instruments.  We played them fast, slow, quiet and loud.

Well done to ETHAN who is our star this week.  We are all so proud of you!

We have been very busy this week exploring shapes.  The children played a matching game to match the 2D shapes on the picture boards.

Home Link – Maybe you could have a look for shapes around your house.  How many circles, squares, triangles and rectangles can you find around the house?

We have been so busy this week, settling back into a routine.  The giraffes have had lots of fun using the song bag at group time.  We each chose a prop out of the bag and then we all practiced singing the song/rhymes together.

Lyle had his very first day in the ECC this week.  We have had lots of fun getting to know him.  Welcome to the Giraffe group Lyle 🦒😁

The giraffe group have settled in well on their return to nursery.  We’ve all been having lots of fun playing with our new friends.  Today we have been learning about numbers and counting while singing number songs.  We have also been learning what zero means.

HAVE A LOVELY SUMMER!! Here’s hoping the sun shines for us and you can enjoy a lovely break before starting school or returning to nursery in August ☀️

Unfortunately we didn’t get to end the year as we had planned but I wish all of the boys and girls going to Primary 1 in August the very best of luck.  You are all super stars and I know you will shine in Primary 1.  🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Good morning, I hope you are all well!  Here are a couple of activity suggestions for you to do at home today.

Build a den – gather some sheets or blankets that you can use to build a den somewhere in the house.  You can make it as big or as little as you like.

Look at a book – you can use your den to snuggle up with some books.  Talk about the role of the author and the illustrator,  Discuss the title, front cover, back cover, blurb and the spine of the book.  Look at the words and the pictures within the pages.  Talk about the characters and which parts of the books that you like or dislike.

Make a healthy snack or lunch – Help to make a healthy snack or lunch and have a little picnic in your den.

Have fun!! 🦒

Week beginning 14/6/21

Playing outdoors

Hopefully the sun stays out for our last few weeks before the holidays.  Please remember suncream and hats.

Week beginning 24/5/21

Some of the giraffe group worked together as a team to build a bus 🚌.  They used loose parts they found in the garden.  What a team!  Fantastic work giraffes! 🤩

We had our very special Fun Day today!  We had lots of fun dancing and playing games with Silly Gilly in the morning and then a sports day in the afternoon.  It was super fun and we all had a brilliant day.

Fun Day

Every day we sing our Days Of The Week song.  We’re getting very good at it.  We speak every day about what day of the week it is and we try and think about what day it was  yesterday and what day it’ll be tomorrow.  Sometimes it can be a bit tricky!

Week beginning 10/5/21

The giraffes have been working hard learning about the initial sounds in words.  We had a game of I Spy and the children had to try really hard to concentrate on the sounds at the beginning of the words.  It can be a little bit tricky sometimes!

Week beginning 26/4/21

This week we have been learning about shapes.  We had a shape hunt in the garden and we managed to find lots.

Finding Shapes

home link – why don’t you look for shapes around the house or outside when you’re out for a walk?  I wonder what shapes you might find!?

We used the smart board to continue shape patterns.  The children liked using technology to engage in a learning experience.

Week beginning 19/4/21

This week we’ve been practicing our counting skills.  We used the numicon resources to count with.

Week beginning 29/3/21

We have been having lots of fun outdoors this week.  We played a game of toilet tig in the school playground.  If the chaser caught us we had to stand with our hands together in the air and wait for a friend to “flush” us before we could run again.  We had so much fun and followed the instructions of the game well.

We also had fun in our natural area.  We counted sticks and stones and we had to guess which pile had more and which pile had less.  It was a bit tricky!

Week beginning 22/3/21

The Giraffe Group have been investigating coins.  We looked carefully at each coin to see the number that tells us the value of the coin.  We then had fun drawing around the coins and making coin rubbings, looking at the different sizes and shapes.

Callum made a hand washing poster to use in the ECC.  He drew the Corona Virus and then lots of hands to remind us that we need to wash our hands to clean away the germs.  Well done Callum.

Week beginning 15/3/21

We took advantage of the lovely weather this week and joined the Tiger group for a game of What’s The Time Mr Wolf in the school playground.  We practiced our counting skills by counting out the correct amount of steps.  The children have been very excited about going over to the school playground and are looking forward to using it more.

Home link – practice counting things around the house.  How many stairs do you have or how many steps does it take to get from the living room to your bedroom?  What other things can you count around the house?

Week beginning 8/3/21

This week the Giraffes have been learning about words that rhyme.  Look at all the rhyming words we found.

We’ve also been busy clapping and jumping out the syllables in our names and other words and we’ve been investigating initial sounds.  What a busy bunch!

Home link- Sing lots of nursery rhymes at home.  See if you can hear the words in the songs that rhyme.  Or maybe you have a story with rhyming words in it.  Listen carefully to see if you can hear them.

Week beginning 1/3/21

It’s been brilliant seeing all of the children back in the ECC over the last week.  We have been very busy settling back into our routine, talking about our emotions and exploring the book called “The Colour Monster” and taking part in a variety of learning experiences.

The Giraffe group have been focusing on expanding our attention and listening skills and we have been doing some problem solving while completing a variety of jigsaw puzzles.
