Sports Relief

The Rights Respecting Schools Committee have organised an Exercise-A-Thon on Friday 13th March to raise awareness of the work Sport Relief does to help ensure people in the UK have access to their rights. All children from the ECC and School will have the opportunity to take part and are invited to wear their sports clothes for the day. No Football colours please.

This is an awareness raising event and no money will be collected.

Well done to the Rights committee for such a great idea!

World Book Day- for Grown Ups too!

Mrs Young has received interest from some of the grown ups in holding a book swap for them. We think this is a wonderful idea and an opportunity for adults to join in the fun. Mrs Young is happy to run the adult book swap from 3.00pm-3.30pm in the Library after school on Thursday 5th March.
We would love your support with this and its a great opportunity to update any old books you are finished with. All we ask is that your book is in reasonable condition. The more people that take part the more successful it will be!

Bring a book you no longer want/need and swap it for something new! Mrs Young will even provide some tasty snacks for those that come along!

Local Library- Access to free ebooks/audio books

With World Book Day coming up we wanted to take the time to remind you about the fantastic resource we have in our local library. I have attached a flyer with some more information about the library. Once opened if you click anywhere on the flyer it will take you to the Newmilns Library webpage.

Once signed up for an East Ayrshire Library account you will be able to access a super app called Borrow Box. This app allows you to access ebooks as well as audio books completely free of charge!

Reminder: World Book Day

World Book Day will be on Thursday 5th March. This year we have decided to incorporate a theme of reuse and recycle by holding our very own Book Swap. Children are invited to bring in a used book (good condition) that they have outgrown or no longer wish to read and swap it for a different one!

All children from the School and ECC are invited to join in!

On the day Mrs Young will collect in all the books in the morning and then children will be invited along later in the day to browse the selection and chose a new book.

The more children who take part the more choice there will be for choosing a new book.

Children who bring in a book to swap on the day will also receive a raffle ticket and be entered into a raffle to win a Prize!

Safer Schools App

East Ayrshire Council are delighted to offer Parents , Carers , Pupils and Teachers access to a great new app called Safer Schools. The app is designed to Educate , Empower and Safeguard our young people and is available to download free .
The app has many features all designed to help keep children safe online. Among the wide range of features available is an online safety centre which has step by step guides on how to block, report and set appropriate privacy and safety settings across a variety of apps commonly used. If you enable push notifications, you will also receive alerts from the Safer Schools team on all of the latest trends and threats with guidance to deal with these.

This app is really user friendly and has lots of links and resources with good quality information on how to keep safe online as well as some fun games. It addresses many of the topics/issues faced by young people online today. Please see below for a powerpoint with more information and login details. As you will see there is separate login details for pupils and parents.
