We are a READING SCHOOL!\u00a0 This means we place reading and literacy at the heart of everything we do at New Cumnock primary school, valuing and recognising reading for pleasure as an important skill and experience.\u00a0 Research from the Scottish Book Trust proves that reading for pleasure supports equity and wellbeing, impacts learners’ attainment, and encourages critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.<\/p>\n

Our overarching aim is to build a reading culture amongst our pupils, staff and wider community.\u00a0 We achieved our CORE award in August 2025.\u00a0 We are now working towards our SILVER award!<\/p>\n
