Putting reading for pleasure at the heart of our school!<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are currently committed to building a reading culture for our learning across our whole school community. We are doing this through Reading Schools, which is the Scottish Book Trust’s National accreditation programme. We will be sharing our journey and learning this session on this page, so please stay tuned!<\/p>\n

Starbooks Cafe<\/strong><\/div>\n
We held a Spring at Starbooks event in our school.\u00a0 The Reading Schools Group worked really hard organising this event.\u00a0 There were lots of book themed stalls and activities, refreshments and access to our library area.\u00a0 It was super well attended and we are so grateful to our whole school community.<\/div>\n

Family Reading Competition\u00a0 – Zoooooomed in!<\/strong><\/div>\n
Thanks to everyone for taking part in the family competition.\u00a0 So many book detectives out there managed to get all the answers correct!! A winner was picked at random and has received his Book Nook voucher.\u00a0 Well done!<\/div>\n

Febru-read Challenge<\/strong><\/div>\n
Lots of learners took part in our Febru-read Challenge.\u00a0 We celebrated at our whole school Personal Achievement Assembly.\u00a0 Well done to everyone who took part and embraced reading for enjoyment.<\/div>\n

World Book Day 2026<\/strong><\/div>\n
This year we were invited to dress up as a word or as a book character.\u00a0 We enjoyed activities in our classrooms and we also got to collect our WBD book from the library.\u00a0 Sarah from the Book Nook provided all of our WBD books this year.\u00a0 The P4-7’s visited the P1-3 classes and we took part in ‘Paired Reading’ – the older pupils helped the younger pupils to write quotes about WBD.<\/div>\n

Mystery Readers\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n

We were so excited to invite parents, carers and grandparents to take part in our Mystery<\/span>\u00a0Reader<\/span>\u00a0sessions<\/span><\/div>\n

What is\u00a0Mystery<\/span>\u00a0Reader<\/span>?<\/b><\/div>\n
A\u00a0Mystery<\/span>\u00a0Reader<\/span>\u00a0is a surprise guest who pops into the class to share a favourite story. Pupils love trying to guess who the\u00a0reader<\/span>\u00a0might be, and it\u2019s a fantastic way to promote a love of reading across the school.<\/div>\n

Staff Are Readers Too!<\/strong><\/div>\n
As part of our Reading for Enjoyment ethos, we feel that it is important for staff to be seen as readers too.\u00a0 We have introduced these posters across the school to model positive reading habits and further promote a culture of reading for enjoyment.\u00a0 By sharing what staff are currently reading, we encourage curiosity, conversation and show learners that reading is valued by adults across the school.<\/div>\n

Community Intergenerational Partnerships\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n

Our P2 pupils had the loveliest afternoon visiting Hamilton Gardens Care Home! They shared Christmas stories, sang festive songs, and spent time chatting with the residents.<\/p>\n

It was a truly heart-warming experience for everyone \u2014 our pupils shone with confidence and kindness, and the residents were delighted to join in the Christmas cheer. \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n

Read Around the World<\/strong><\/div>\n
\n
Last week, our school has been celebrating Book Week Scotland with a whole-school theme: Read Around the World. Each class selected a book from a different culture and used it as inspiration to explore traditions, settings, characters and stories from around the globe. Pupils took part in rich discussions, creative activities and research linked to their chosen text and worked together to create amazing display boards showcasing their learning.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
To round off the week, we held a whole school event where classes shared their work with one another. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to celebrate their achievements, learn from other classes and experience the joy of stories from cultures far and wide.<\/div>\n
