Road Safety Campaign<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The issue of road safety along the A76 where our school is situated continues to be an ongoing battle. With yet another life claimed on this stretch of road, we have continued our partnership with local Counsellor, Jim McMahon, who is working on getting the speed limit through the village of New Cumnock, lowered to 20mph. Jim is invited to our Parent Council meetings to feedback to the parent body on the progress of this.<\/p>\n

Trailblazing signs<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Trailblazing signage is up all around the village and referred to in Get Togethers, to ensure children are adhering to the routes when using active travel to get to school, not only as part of our Shoot To Saturn initiative, but as a long term commitment to active travel.<\/p>\n

Shoot To Saturn<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

As a school, we were active participants in the Shoot to Saturn initiative, with each class gathering their S-Miles weekly. Our Transport Team lead took this role very seriously and ensured S-Miles sheets were completed each week, even offering her support to classes who would often forget to log theirs. We have seen a noticeable increase in the number of children walking\/scooting\/cycling to school this session. Our bike racks are more filled than we have previously seen.<\/p>\n

‘Park at the pool, let your kids walk to school’<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

As part of our active travel initiative, we have continued with the slogan of \u2018Park at the pool, let your kids walk to school\u2019, ensuring the safety of children trying to park and stride. Next session, when our walking bus is established, we intend to make this one of our pick up points.<\/p>\n

Bikeability<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We are delighted to have Bikeability training operating on a Friday afternoon for our P7 pupils this session. It is hoped they will all achieve their Level 1 before they leave us at the end of June.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

NEC Travel Cards<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Where possible, we have used public transport to transport our pupils on trips, encouraging the use of their NEC cards. We have seen a huge uptake in the number of parents\/carers applying for these cards since we have started to ask for this. We have effectively used this for trips such as Sportshall Athletics, where prior to this, our pupils would have been unable to attend due to not having the budget available to book a bus. This has been extremely beneficial to our school, where we are often disadvantaged due to the cost of booking transport.<\/p>\n

Next Steps:<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Next session, we intend to make our Walking Bus a priority, not only to promote active travel from a Climate Change perspective, but also as a means to improve school attendance as part of our School Improvement Plan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
