Energy Checklists – Homes and Local Businesses<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Our class \u2018Whit Wid Windy Dae?\u2019 checklists were adapted and sent home to \u2018oldest and only\u2019 so that every household had one, thus ensuring that all pupils were leading the changes of behaviours regarding energy, in their homes. In addition to this, they were adapted for use local businesses and distributed throughout the village, ensuring the same message regarding energy saving was shared throughout the community.<\/p>\n

SHARING WITH COMMUNITY<\/p>\n

Learning about Renewable Energy<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

This session, we have established a working relationship with OnPath Energy, who have their application granted for Lethans and Lethans Extension Wind Farms near New Cumnock.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The village has faced a lot of disruption this past year with the generation of new wind farms (road closures and diversions being the biggest factors), resulting in some discontent within the community, where Wind Farms are concerned. It has been important to share the benefits of renewable energy to our young people to then echo this message at home, enabling our families to understand why this change is required and the benefits it can have for us now and in the future. Through inviting Aileen from OnPath Energy to visit our school Get Together, making the connection with the Clean Green Energy mascot, Windy, then sharing this information with our young people and then with our families through our communication platforms, we are hopeful we can change the opinion of some within our local community.<\/p>\n

OnPath Energy<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

This session, our P5 class visited Whitelee Windfarm for their class trip, after learning about renewable energy in class.<\/p>\n

This trip was extremely informative and the children showed great prior knowledge and had excellent questions for the Scottish Power Renewables staff.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Water butts<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We were successful in securing a Tesco Stronger Starts Grant, and have used this money to buy gardening equipment to support us in growing our own produce in our new school planters. This has included the addition of new water butts which will be attached to the gutter pipes in the courtyard areas to gather the rain water, which will be used to water the produce and plants we grow.<\/p>\n
