Our 2023\/24 progress:<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Energy Checklists – Whit Wid Windy Dae?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

At the start of the year we updated all the ‘switch off’ signage around the school to incorporate Windy the Windmill. We hoped that by adding the ‘Power Down’ Mascot to all signage, it would make it more communication friendly to our learners and ensure consistency across the school.<\/p>\n

Our Energy Team took responsibility for ensuring classes were adhering to our ‘Whit wid Windy dae?’ checklist to ensure we were working together to reduce the consumption of energy in our school. The Clean Green board lets us know who is on duty each week.<\/p>\n

Power Down Challenges<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

We participated in each month\u2019s Power Down challenge, earning parts of our Windy the Windmill. This included making videos to promote energy saving in the classroom, enrolling Energy Monitors in each class and analysing our energy data with support from our school Janitor.<\/p>\n

So far we have earned up to Blade 3 and only the Hub left to be awarded! Check out our progress…<\/p>\n

School Technology\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Our Energy Team sorted through our technology storage across the school and colour coded these to ensure they were stored and cared for appropriately.<\/p>\n

Outdoor Learning<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Outdoor Learning has been a huge focus for our P7s \u2013 with their class teacher being the curricular lead in this area. Moving forward \u2013 this needs to roll out to other classes. Next session, we will enlist support from the LOST team, as Mr Burns is a Probationary Teacher and won\u2019t be with us. We aim to have another teacher take this area of leadership on next session.<\/p>\n

Recording Energy Usage<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Our energy usage of both electricity and water has been monitored this session. Looking at our statistics we could see a spike in electricity usage in January which was justified with the colder months, but comparing this to previous years, we could see it was greater and continued to March and beyond. We discovered this was when we had to have electric heaters fitted in the school because of a heating malfunction. This generated great discussion ad understanding of gathering and interpreting data.<\/p>\n
