Welcome Back to Term 2\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope everyone ha<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0a relaxing holiday.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Below is an overview of the<\/span>\u00a0Term\u00a0<\/span>2<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>learning and teaching<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We will\u00a0<\/span>be using<\/span>\u00a0the Bug Club<\/span>\u00a0core readers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to aid\u00a0<\/span>and build on\u00a0<\/span>our active comprehension skills.<\/span>\u00a0Pupils\u00a0<\/span>will focus on a chapter each week and work on tasks around the chapters they have read. Pupils will also work on specific skills such as inference this term. Some pupils will start to use direct quotes from\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>text to justify\u00a0<\/span>their answers\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0comprehension questions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This term Primary 6 will\u00a0<\/span>continue to\u00a0<\/span>focus on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Narrative<\/span>\u00a0writing and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Figurative Language (Similes, Alliteration, Personification, and Metaphors)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Pupils will focus on purpose and audience<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>they will have the opportunity to write\u00a0<\/span>stories for some of our younger pupils to listen to and enjoy.\u00a0<\/span>We will focus on a<\/span>\u00a0different aspect of grammar\/punctuation each week.<\/span> Our writing day will be on Thursday. The class will be told the focus of their writing\u00a0<\/span>in the homework grid sent out on a Monday.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spelling<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The spelling\u00a0<\/span>g<\/span>roups will continue to experience the Active Literacy spelling program, this will introduce common words and focus phonemes pertinent to their stage.<\/span>\u00a0The pupils will<\/span>\u00a0revise the Active Spelling strategies throughout Term<\/span>\u00a02<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Numeracy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This term we will be focusing on\u00a0<\/span>the four operations within\u00a0<\/span>the context of\u00a0<\/span>decimals and long multiplication. We will also cover\u00a0<\/span>2D and 3D shapes and a money and finance topic. <\/span>Mrs. McIntyre will<\/span>\u00a0also<\/span>\u00a0focus on Beyond Number topics<\/span>\u00a0on a Friday.<\/span> The pupils will experience activities at their stage and level. The revision of multiplication tables will be encouraged across all groups.\u00a0<\/span>Sumdog<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Topmarks<\/span> games can help with the rigor of x-tables at home.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Health and Wellbeing<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our focus this term is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Internet Safety. This topic ties in with our class topic of digital skills.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Our weekly PATHS lessons will focus on social and emotional lessons<\/span>. The<\/span>\u00a0pupils enjoy<\/span>\u00a0\u2018Pupil of the Day\u2019<\/span>\u00a0and are great at giving each other lovely compliments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday and is it very important the pupils bring in a jacket these days. I have also suggested to the pupils that they bring in a change of bottoms just in case <\/span>our PE days are \u2018rainy\u2019 – that will become a certainty coming into the winter months. The pupils understand that\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0will try\u00a0<\/span>my<\/span>\u00a0utmost to deliver PE lessons outdoors,\u00a0<\/span>however,<\/span>\u00a0this might become tricker as we come into the winter mon<\/span>ths.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

IDL<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our class topic this term is Digital Skills. Stong digital skills are\u00a0<\/span>vital<\/span> in today\u2019s world. Pupils will learn about different aspects of Office 365 such as Teams, Forms,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>PowerPoint<\/span>. We will also be learning how to email correctly. Pupils will learn how to use different features of our school\u00a0<\/span>iPads<\/span>\u00a0and will create and edit videos to highlight learning in the class. Our topic ties in nicely with<\/span>\u00a0Literacy \u2013 using word processing to publish writing and creating reports.\u00a0<\/span>Office 365 can be downloaded FREE from the pupils\u2019 Glow account.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RME<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout Primary 6 the pupils will\u00a0<\/span>listen to and\u00a0<\/span>engage with stories from the Gospel of Matthew.<\/span>\u00a0We have already started looking at The Bible as our sacred text.\u00a0<\/span>In the months of October and\u00a0<\/span>November,<\/span>\u00a0we\u2019ll be looking at the story of Creation<\/span>. During the month of December, we will look at the Nativity through the Gospel of Matthew.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The pupils are also working hard to gain individual reward cards for Amazing\u00a0<\/span>Attitude<\/span>, Wonderful Wor<\/span>k, and being a <\/span>S<\/span>uperstar. When the pupils gain five reward\u00a0<\/span>cards,<\/span>\u00a0they can trade them in for\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>individual<\/span>\u00a0prize or keep them until everyone gets 5 cards each for a whole class reward\u00a0<\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
