Welcome to the Primary\u00a03\u00a0blog!\u00a0<\/span><\/i>As we begin a new school year, P3 have settled in beautifully to our new classroom and new routines. They are already working very hard revising and consolidating previous learning as they strive to become confident and independent learners. Primary 3 can\u2019t wait to share their learning journey with you whilst keeping our school values; faith, kindness and responsibility at the centre of everything we do. We have had a great start to the new term, and we are excited to see what this term will bring. Below is a curriculum overview for this term.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span><\/b>This term, Primary 3 will develop their prediction and reasoning skills using context clues to understand new vocabulary. An awareness of the effect of full stops, commas, question marks and exclamation marks on expression will also be developed. Bug Club readers will be used mainly to improve reading fluency and extend comprehension. Daily <\/span>opportunities for reading\u00a0will be provided through personal reading time and weekly visits to the library.\u00a0Please encourage your child to read at home as this will support their reading skills at school.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Writing\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span><\/b>In\u00a0writing t<\/span>his term, our focus genre will be ‘descriptive’. Description bubbles are\u00a0used to support\u00a0the planning and purpose of each piece of writing and we will look further at adjectives and writing conventions such as similes in support of this. In addition to this, weekly handwriting lessons will ensure all letters are formed legibly and\u00a0correctly (upper & lower case) as well as a strong focus on using <\/span>connectives such as \u201cand\u201d, \u201cbut\u201d and \u201cbecause\u201d to extend our writing and add more detail to our sentences. Daily writing tasks will be completed to develop independence with emphasis on the use of spelling strategies and punctuation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spelling –\u00a0<\/span><\/b>New phonemes will be introduced\u00a0weekly. Active spelling activities\u00a0will be used to support this learning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Listening and Talking\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span><\/b>When developing\u00a0talking and listening skills, P3 will initially revisit prior\u00a0learning, including\u00a0understanding when to listen and when to respond, taking turns and communicating with others.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This term,\u00a0<\/span>Place Value knowledge\u00a0will be reviewed and revisited\u00a0before building on this. Primary 3\u00a0will look at\u00a0identifying\u00a0the value of each digit within\u00a02 and 3 digit\u00a0numbers\u00a0as well as\u00a0read, write,\u00a0order\u00a0and recite these numbers.\u00a0In addition to this, estimating and rounding skills\u00a0will be developed\u00a0through learning and understanding the rule of rounding. They will then begin to develop their addition and subtraction skills and use mathematical language\u00a0to\u00a0solve problems.\u00a0Daily number talks\u00a0will be completed, to develop mental maths strategies.\u00a0Pupils will also learn about Information Handling\u00a0and\u00a0how we use and interpret data. Pupils will learn how to\u00a0represent\u00a0information and present it to others.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

UNCRC<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As we began the new term, we explored the UNCRC Rights of the Child. Together, Primary 3 created a meaningful class charter and <\/span>classroom promise thinking of their rights, needs, and wants as well as our school values:\u00a0kindness,\u00a0faith\u00a0and responsibility.\u00a0This charter and promise\u00a0ensure\u00a0that the classroom is a safe space where all children can learn, play and grow\u00a0together.\u00a0A\u00a0\u2018Superhero<\/strong><\/em>\u2019\u00a0theme\u00a0was chosen\u00a0for our charter\u00a0to show\u00a0what\u00a0our\u00a0\u2018superhero\u00a0qualities\u2019 are.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Health and Wellbeing<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Primary 3 will continue to access our whole school PATHS programme this year to develop their understanding of emotions.\u00a0Lessons\u00a0this term\u00a0will include setting up our class rules, looking at individual emotions, building friendships and community within the school,\u00a0Self-Control\u00a0and Anger Management.\u202f<\/span>Each child will have the opportunity to be \u201cPupil of the Day\u201d,\u00a0they will receive compliments from their peers on this day. So far, the children have really enjoyed this experience.\u00a0<\/span>We\u00a0also continue to have mindful\u00a0times\u00a0allocated\u00a0throughout\u00a0our\u00a0school day to\u00a0allow\u00a0pupils to\u00a0re-energise and\u00a0\u2018recharge\u2019\u00a0their batteries\u00a0when needed.\u00a0Our class\u00a0will also look at the\u00a0\u2018Do Be Mindful\u2019\u00a0programme,\u00a0which will allow us, through a range of\u00a0different\u00a0strategies, to\u00a0think of the ways\u00a0we can\u00a0be\u00a0mindful\u00a0each day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Physical Education<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This term,\u00a0Primary\u00a03\u00a0will\u00a0begin with a\u00a0focus on\u00a0team\u00a0games. Following instructions and\u00a0participating\u00a0in a safe way will be a focus for this learning. In addition to this, Primary\u00a03\u00a0will have the opportunity to develop their\u00a0skills in hockey and badminton.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

PE days<\/strong> are Monday<\/strong> afternoon and Thursday<\/strong> afternoon.\u00a0All children will\u00a0require\u00a0a PE\u00a0kit on these days. We ask for your support to ensure that any\u00a0jewellery\u00a0is\u00a0taken off and left at home on PE days.\u00a0<\/span>If your child wears earrings, they must be able to remove them independently in order to participate. This is school\/EAC Health and Safety policy. If your child cannot take part for any reason, please contact the school\u00a0and let us know.<\/span>\u00a0 Thank you!<\/span><\/p>\n

Religious Education<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In R.E., Primary 3 will\u00a0continue to\u00a0develop\u00a0their understanding of building friendships through bible stories and reflect that <\/span>everyone is created by God and is special. We will look at how we individually have strengths which make us unique and can have many\u00a0 gifts and talents. P3 will reflect on how God can support us in our daily life and will create their own class prayer to remind them to keep God at the centre of everything they do. Later in the term, Primary 3 will look at the story of Jesus\u2019 Baptism as well as share their own Baptism stories. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>IDL<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have started the term with a mini-focus on\u00a0a class\u00a0novel \u2018The Boy Who Grew Dragons\u2019.\u00a0 Pupils will complete\u00a0various curricular\u00a0activities connected to this and make links to\u00a0Science (Plants\/Animals).\u00a0This will support\u00a0our\u00a0first\u00a0class\u00a0topic \u201cClimates Around the World\u201d\u00a0where\u00a0we\u00a0will\u00a0continue to have a\u00a0look\u00a0in detail\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0areas\u00a0Science and Social Studies.\u00a0Pupils\u00a0will make cross-curricular links during\u00a0their\u00a0learning about this topic,\u00a0including\u00a0Geography,\u00a0Climate\u00a0Change,\u00a0as well\u00a0as\u00a0through\u00a0Literacy and\u00a0Technologies.\u00a0P3 will learn about\u00a0different types\u00a0of climates around the world,\u00a0be able to\u00a0identify\u00a0and define them\u00a0and\u00a0describe how climate affects the way people live,\u00a0as well as compare the climate\u00a0here\u00a0in Scotland with other parts of the world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Homework<\/strong> will be distributed on a Monday and should be completed and returned on a Friday each week.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Primary\u00a03\u00a0look forward to sharing their learning and successes with you throughout the term!\u00a0Look out on the school app as well as Learning Journals where some of your child\u2019s fabulous learning moments will be shared.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Gentle reminder that\u00a0when providing a\u00a0breaktime\u00a0snack for your child\u00a0or packed\u00a0lunch\u00a0that\u00a0we are a nut-free school. This is even more important for\u00a0us in\u00a0P3,\u00a0as we have\u00a0a few pupils with severe allergies in our class.\u00a0Some products like Kinder Bueno and\u00a0Nutella\u00a0still\u00a0contain\u00a0nuts and\u00a0others\u00a0traces\u00a0of nuts\u00a0and are not\u00a0appropriate\u00a0for\u00a0school. Please double check. Our pupils have access to\u00a0fruit daily in our dinner hall should pupils\u00a0require\u00a0a snack.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
