We hope you have all had an enjoyable summer. It<br \/>\nhas been fantastic to see Primary 4 settle into their new classroom<br \/>\nand routines. During our first few days, we explored the UNCRC<br \/>\nRights of the Child, and together created a meaningful Class Charter<br \/>\nto ensure that our classroom is a place where we feel safe, where we<br \/>\ncan learn and grow together.<\/p>\n<p>We have had a great start to the term, and look forward to a fun<br \/>\nfilled term with lots of fabulous learning taking place.<br \/>\nHere is an update on the upcoming term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy<\/strong><br \/>\nWe will be looking at a range of texts this term, including our Bug<br \/>\nClub readers. We will be focusing on continuing to develop reading<br \/>\nfluency as well as becoming more confident using word attack<br \/>\nstrategies for unfamiliar words. We will also use a range of<br \/>\ncomprehension strategies as we show our understanding of the texts we have read.<br \/>\nDuring writing, we will continue to work on our sentence structure<br \/>\nand the use of description bubbles for various descriptive pieces,<br \/>\nwith an emphasis on punctuation and the use of spelling strategies.<br \/>\nWe will work on enhancing our descriptions with amazing adjectives<br \/>\nand adverbs.<br \/>\nSpelling will take the form of active spelling activities and the<br \/>\nchildren will experience phonemes and blends at their working level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy &amp; Maths<\/strong><br \/>\nThe class will review Place Value knowledge and will use this to build<br \/>\non their sense of number. We will look at 3 and 4 digit numbers and<br \/>\nwe will read, write order and recite these numbers. Through our<br \/>\nplace value work, we will be able to identify the value of each digit.<br \/>\nWe will then progress to looking at our addition and subtraction<br \/>\nstrategies. The class will participate in a daily number talk, to<br \/>\ndevelop of mental maths strategies.<br \/>\nWe will also explore 2D and 3D shapes learning to sort and describe<br \/>\nshapes based on certain criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><br \/>\nThis term we will be begin our PATHS programme for P4. Lessons<br \/>\nwill include setting up our class rules, looking at individual emotions,<br \/>\nbuilding friendships and community within the school, Self-Control<br \/>\nand Anger Management. We will also continue with the Do Be<br \/>\nMindful programme which will allow us, through the use of a range of strategies, to look at ways we can take a mindful moment each day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PE<\/strong><br \/>\nPE is on a Wednesday and Friday. This term we will be covering;<br \/>\nTeam Games<br \/>\nFootball<br \/>\nChildren will require PE kit each PE day. Please make sure your child<br \/>\nis not wearing jewellery on these days as they will be asked to remove this. Children can not wear jewellery for health and safety reasons. \u00a0If your child cannot take part for any reason, please contact the school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>French<\/strong><br \/>\nWe will be looking at some basic French phrases and numbers this<br \/>\nterm through, songs, activities and games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IDL<\/strong><br \/>\nThis term we will complete a comparison of the climate zones of the<br \/>\nrainforest areas and the Arctic. We will explore the location of<br \/>\nthese areas using an Atlas and digital mapping and will investigate<br \/>\nthe weather and how it effects living things in both areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expressive Arts<\/strong><br \/>\nDuring art, we will explore some colourful rainforest inspired<br \/>\nartwork by Henri Rousseau. Using a range of medium, we will create<br \/>\nour own colourful pieces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Religious Education<\/strong><br \/>\nThis term we will be reflecting on our uniqueness and thinking about<br \/>\nour God given talents. We will reflect on the importance of<br \/>\nfriendship and link this with various stories from the Bible. We will<br \/>\nexplore life at the time of Jesus, in particular the role of the<br \/>\nSynagogue and the importance of the Sabbath in first century<br \/>\nPalestine.<br \/>\nThe children will take part in class prayers and School Masses, and<br \/>\nwe will continue to build on our knowledge of common prayers and<br \/>\nMass responses.<\/p>\n<p>Homework will be distributed on a Monday to be completed, and<br \/>\nreturned by Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Keep an eye on the School app and your child\u2019s Learning Journal<br \/>\nprofile for a snapshot of some of our wonderful learning!
