The school week will consist of myself in class, Mrs McIntyre (Mon-&gt;<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Thurs) and Mrs<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">McCreadie (Fridays). We are looking forward to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">engaging in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">more challenging<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">learning<\/span> this year <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">our<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">class,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of course, we hope to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">shar<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">e<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">this with yo<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">u <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">throughout the year<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">. This first blo<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">g p<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ost will overview the learning cover<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ed<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in the P5 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">class from August until October.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">So far,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">we have already established our class community, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">routines, expectations and <span data-fui-focus-visible=\"\">\u00a0had our welcome meeting with parents.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static.vecteezy.com\/system\/resources\/previews\/056\/391\/309\/non_2x\/knight-in-armor-with-dog-standing-before-castle-in-flat-art-vector.jpg\" alt=\"Knight Castle Vector Art, Icons, and Graphics for Free Download\" width=\"168\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>IDL<\/u><\/strong>&#8211; <strong><em>&#8216;Knights and Castles\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our focus this term is \u2018Knights and Castles\u2019. Pupils will use their developing research and note-taking skills to look at historical events in the Middle Ages. This will include the history of castles, the evolution of castle design, the feudal system and role of Knights, including the \u2018Code of Chivalry\u2019 and society at this time. We will be using various curricular areas within this topic to help, such as, ICT, Art, Literacy, STEM and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Literacy<\/u><\/strong> \u2013<\/p>\n<p>This term we will be reading<em> \u2018Harry Potter and the Philosopher\u2019s Stone\u2019<\/em> as a class novel study to loosely link with <strong><em>\u2018Knights and Castles\u2019<\/em><\/strong> .<\/p>\n<p>Through our study pupils will be able to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read\u00a0using strategies, make notes and engage in dialogue with peers to discuss themes in the class text.<\/li>\n<li>Build skills on our 6 key Active Literacy Comprehension strategies.<\/li>\n<li>Writing Focus\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Recount,\u00a0Imaginative and Information Report (Newspaper Article).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/thumbs.dreamstime.com\/b\/harry-potter-cartoon-icon-minimal-style-vector-108603778.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter Stock Illustrations \u2013 2,098 Harry Potter Stock ...\" width=\"238\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pupils will complete various reading and writing tasks related to this appropriate to their level. This novel study will also link to other areas of the curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We will continue to use Bug Club as our differentiated reading\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 resource and will be developing our fluency and comprehension skills using this resource, both in class and as homework.<\/p>\n<p><u>Spelling<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Spelling will take the form of active activities related to the \u2018Active Spelling\u2019 resource, the children will continue to experience phonemes and blends pertinent to the ability and stage. Please support your child by asking about their spelling words weekly.<\/p>\n<p><u>Writing<\/u><\/p>\n<p>P5 will focus on descriptive\/ narrative writing this term. The class will learn the focus of their writing early in the week which will allow time to discuss ideas together in class, and at home,\u00a0 to help with planning. This will be their \u2018Talk Homework.\u2019 In class, groups will look at planning their piece, punctuation, effective use of vocabulary and paragraphing to meet personal success criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Numeracy &amp; Maths<\/u><\/strong> &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Place Value<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; looking at larger whole numbers. This will range per group from TTh\/Th \/H\/ T\/ U.<\/li>\n<li>Using our knowledge of place value to develop<strong><em> Addition<\/em> <\/strong>and <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span data-fui-focus-visible=\"\">Addition strategies for all groups dealing with larger numbers, such as using friendly <\/span><\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">numbers, formal notation and partitioning<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Estimation<\/strong>\/<strong>Probability<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Daily Mental Maths<\/strong><\/em> covering the 4 processes (+ &#8211; x \/) and revision of strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"p35R_mc15\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">P5 will work on Beyond Number topics with Mrs McCreadie on a Friday. Th<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is will <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">include subject areas such as shape, measure, data handling<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span data-fui-focus-visible=\"\">time and money. <\/span><\/span><\/span>This term the children will be looking at \u2018<strong>Shape<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>At home, children will benefit from times tables revision and experience of telling the time in everyday situations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health and Wellbeing<\/u><\/strong> &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The class have worked brilliantly as a team in P4 and have been an integral part of our MC family. To ensure that our class strengthens these skills as we move into Primary 5, we will refresh, revisit and complete our class charter, to ensure to uphold the UNRC\/ RRS rights we have selected as our focus. P5 pupils understand the responsibilities and expectations that will be placed upon them this year.<\/p>\n<p>We are continuing to use our whole school \u2018PATHS\u2019 resource this year, which allows children to grow emotionally and channel their thoughts and behaviours in a calm and proactive way. Children are familiar with this programme and can name and identify their feelings. We will continue to provide them with scenarios and situations that will require their knowledge of \u2018self\u2019 to grow. We will discuss our talents and skills, and this will form the basis of our class charter. We will look at Bible stories aligning with our learning about friendship focus and our faith community. We also will learn new prayers in P5 and look forward to attending mass as a whole school.
