I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year\u00a0and managed to get some well-earned rest\u00a0in between all the excitement of the festive period. It\u00a0has been\u00a0great to have Primary 6 back in class and I\u00a0have loved\u00a0hearing all about their Christmas holidays.\u00a0Primary 6 have settled back into their school routine and\u00a0are ready to\u00a0take on\u00a0term 3. Please see below an overview of the teaching and learning for the following term:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Literacy<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Reading<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Primary 6 will continue to work on\u00a0Bug Club\u00a0books both in class\u00a0as well as the independent texts assigned for children to read at home for enjoyment.\u00a0Pupils will focus on a chapter each week and engage in\u00a0good\u00a0quality\u00a0discussion with their reading group and teacher then\u00a0work on tasks based around this chapter independently. This will help to aid and build on our active comprehension skills.\u00a0Groups will continue to work on using evidence from the text to justify comprehension answers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Writing<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Our writing day will\u00a0continue to\u00a0be\u00a0on\u00a0a Tuesday. The pupils will have the opportunity to discuss and plan their writing the day before and will be encouraged to take time at home as a homework task to think about the content of their writing.\u00a0Moreover, we will focus as a class on an aspect of grammar\/punctuation\u00a0each week\u00a0to use in our writing which will hopefully\u00a0transfer\u00a0to all literacy areas.\u00a0This term Primary 6 will be\u00a0focusing on\u00a0Narrative\u00a0writing.\u00a0We will\u00a0refer back\u00a0to using our description bubbles from Term 1 to aid in describing\u00a0characters and settings\u00a0while looking at the use of dialogue, figurative\u00a0language,\u00a0and plot structures to engage the reader.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Spelling<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The spelling groups will continue to experience the Active Literacy spelling program, this will introduce\u00a0common words\u00a0and focus phonemes\u00a0pertinent to their level and stage.\u00a0The pupils will revise the Active Spelling strategies throughout\u00a0the term.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Numeracy<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This term P6 will focus on\u00a0Fractions,\u00a0Decimals, and\u00a0Percentages and our\u00a0Beyond Number topics will be Time and Measure.\u00a0The pupils will experience activities at their stage and level. Constant revision of multiplication tables will be encouraged across all groups.\u00a0Sumdog\u00a0and\u00a0Topmarks\u00a0games can help with the rigor of times tables at home. Pupils will continue to\u00a0engage in daily\u00a0Number\u00a0Talks to increase their mental\u00a0maths\u00a0agility. This is\u00a0an area P6 have been working\u00a0hard\u00a0on\u00a0throughout the last 2 terms and I look forward to seeing what they are capable of in term 3!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Health and Wellbeing<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Last term P6 continued to work through our weekly PATHS lessons which focused on problem solving and\u00a0making a plan.\u00a0Moreover, the PATHS Barnardo Buddies\u00a0programme\u00a0has been up and running, all children involved have received training and\u00a0have made a\u00a0fantastic\u00a0start\u00a0on\u00a0their buddying\u00a0journey.\u00a0This has given the\u00a0Buddies\u00a0a\u00a0sense\u00a0of responsibility and\u00a0commitment,\u00a0dedicating part of their lunchtime\u00a0towards\u00a0something that has a great benefit\u00a0to both the school community and their own personal development.\u00a0Our \u2018Pupil of the Day\u2019 continues, which encourages P6 to not only compliment their classmates, but to\u00a0compliment and be kind to themselves, which can sometimes be trickier than we think. As always, all children in P6 are encouraged to use their \u2018feelings jotter\u2019 to\u00a0share any worries or concerns they may be experiencing. P6 will cover a mini topic this term looking at substance misuse and making\u00a0the right choices.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Our PE days this term will\u00a0return to\u00a0Thursday\u00a0and Friday.\u00a0Our\u00a0Thursday\u00a0sessions will\u00a0have a focus on Netball while our Friday sessions look at Fitness.\u00a0Pupils are asked to come dressed for PE on these days \u2013 school uniform on top but leggings, joggers, trainers can be worn on the bottom.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">IDL<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Last term P6 focused on\u00a0Titanic\u00a0which they thoroughly enjoyed, especially making all their wonderful home projects \u2013 The Titanic Shoeboxes\u00a0&#8211; which are proudly on display in our\u00a0open area. This term our topic will be Scotland. Throughout this topic we will look at Literacy while examining\u00a0Scots\u00a0language and poetry;\u00a0Social\u00a0Studies as we explore Scotland on a map\u00a0and study the landscape, mountains and rivers Scotland has to offer;\u00a0as well as\u00a0Expressive\u00a0Arts,\u00a0as we recreate some landscape\u00a0artwork and study Steven Brown, a famous Scottish artist.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">RE<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Last term P6 began working towards their Pope Francis Faith Award during\u00a0our\u00a0RE sessions. So\u00a0far,\u00a0we have focused on the gift of Knowledge and completed various activities to support this. Children\u00a0are encouraged to share this learning at home as part of the award and some homework tasks will focus on areas of this. Furthermore, this term we will study\u00a0the life of Jesus in Jerusalem and look at key dates in the liturgical calendar such as Shrove Tuesday\u00a0and the beginning of\u00a0Lent in preparation for Easter.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">2+1 Languages<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This term, Primary 6 will\u00a0continue to work\u00a0on French as their main language\u00a0with\u00a0Mrs\u00a0Mackinnon. In our classroom we have\u00a0started\u00a0to immerse ourselves in the French language with labels and displays in\u00a0French. Each day,\u00a0we fill in a French\u00a0calendar with the aim of\u00a0embedding the\u00a0language into our classroom routines.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In Primary 6 we promote\u00a0hard\u00a0work\u00a0and amazing attitudes. Our reward card system allows pupils to gain reward cards for Wonderful Work, Amazing Attitude, and being a \u2018Superstar\u2019.\u00a0When the pupils gain five cards, they can choose an individual reward. They can also choose to go for a class reward once everyone reaches five reward cards; this promotes teamwork within the class.\u00a0Term 1 and term 2 have seen all children receive individual rewards.
