Pupil Committees

Junior Road Safety Officers

As a JRSO committee we have to keep our school safe while crossing the road, walking in the dark or not wearing a seatbelt. We had a small vote in our group on what we want our board theme to be. It turned out to be about not wearing your helmets while on a bike, scooter or skate board because loads of people can get seriously injured because they don’t wear their helmets! Our headline on our display board is “No helmet no bike”. We used word to create some facts for our board. Last term we had a mini competition. You had to create a seat belt poster and we have a winner! As a JRSO committee we like to teach our school to be safe in a fun way!

Pupil Council

In the Pupil Council we have been given £200 by Smyths Toy Shop to spend, but Mr Forsyth is giving us another £200, so we have £400 to spend in Smyths, so we have been looking at the catalogue. We were also looking at House Name themes and we’re quite sure we are going to go with Scottish islands, including Arran, Skye, Orkney and Mull.

DFS

Dyslexia Awareness Week

In the DFS group we were learning about how you learn. There are three types of learning:

  • You can be a kinaesthetic learner which means you learn with your hands. You can learn best by building stuff to help you.
  • You can also be a visual learner which means you learn with your eyes so you will learn easier if things are written down.
  • Or you can be an auditory learner so you learn by communicating.

You will be good at all of these, but it’s the one you are best at that helps the most.

Right Respecting School

In the RRS committee we’ve been learning about the levels of achievements in RRS. Just now, Mount Carmel is producing from Level 1.The badges for level 1 are 35mm wide and tall.

We have also been planning an assembly that includes a PowerPoint but that’s all we have planned.

We did an acrostic poem with the word RESPECT and then we listened to the song “We’ve All Got Rights”.

The Eco Committee

Yesterday Mount Carmel Primary had their second community time for this year. At the Eco Committee we split off into pairs and had a focus for each group. Our focuses were litter, energy, water, waste minimisation, transport, school grounds and health and well-being. We each created a document of what we thought were our school’s main eco problems and how we can solve them.

Our aims this year are to recycle all litter and keep our green flag. Mount Carmel has had our green flag for around 3 years and are working towards keeping it.

Last year in our school at Christmas we made our very own food bank reverse advent calendar. Everyday teachers and our eco committee tried to encourage pupils to bring in a tin can of food for people who are struggling to buy food for winter season. We are hoping to do this again in 2017.

To keep updated on our eco missions check for more updates on glow or check out our board in the corridor!

Health and Wellbeing

In the Health and Wellbeing Committee we were writing down what skills you need for different sports to create a display in the Gym Hall to help people with their work. We also talked about what we did the last time (having a growth mind set).
