21.22 Primary 1B Mrs Kilday

Welcome to Primary 1b’s blog.

Monday 24th January

Happy New Year

The children have taken home a copy of the poem  ‘My Wee Doggie’ by J K Annand.

Please encourage your child to learn to recite the poem as part of our celebration of Scottish language.

This week the children will bring home some A4 sheets of letters. Please cut up the letters and ask your child to make some words e.g. cat, can, mat, hand, hat, met etc.

Please encourage your child to say the word they have made aloud then sound out each phoneme before blending the letters to say the word again.

(We do this in school every day with our Rainbow letters so the children will be good at it.)

In maths, we have been learning to give directions and describe the positions of items. Please try the Topmarks game called ‘Hungry Pirates’ and follow the directions to guide Peg to the treasure chest.

(Click on the link below to play the game.)

Thank you for your continued support.

Have fun!

Have a good weekend.

But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
on your own front door.

Look what these two Nature Detectives have made.

Well done Ali and Anna.

Your wreaths are beautiful.

Don’t forget it’s our Christmas party tomorrow and on Friday we will be having our film day.

Friday 10th December

It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Our Advent task for Saturday is another Nature Detective Challenge.

If you complete the challenge you can either bring your lovely wreath to school to show us or take a photograph and bring it to school.

Our Advent task for Sunday is to watch a Christmas film.  Why not cosy up with your whole family and have some mince pies and hot chocolate too.

Don’t forget our party is on Tuesday afternoon.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Kilday

Wednesday 1st December

The children have been given a Nature Detective Challenge to try at home.

Their challenge is to create a star for the top of our class Christmas tree.

If they complete the challenge, they should bring their star to school by Monday 6th December.

We will vote to decide which one will go on top of the tree.

Enjoy the challenge.

Monday 15th November

Good morning everybody.  What a busy week we are going to have this week.

We will be taking part in activities to celebrate Road Safety Week.

Use the competition sheet which you took home on Friday to design your Road Safety Super Hero.  Be as creative as you like and bring your entry back to school by Friday 19th november.

We will also be celebrating Anti-Bullying Week and World Kindness Day.

How kind can you be?

Tick off, on your kind acts sheet, any kind acts you carry out and write in any others you do then tell me about them at school and put a bead in our Acts of Kindness Jar for each one.

This week is Book Week Scotland and we will of course be celebrating it with lots of stories and fun activities.

Get to bed nice and early each night so that you are not too tired to join in all the fun.

Tuesday 19th October

Welcome back to school everybody.  I hope you had a lovely holiday and are ready for lots of new fun and learning.

This week the children will be bringing home a reading book.  Everyone will have one by Friday.  Look out for it in your child’s school bag.

Please spend a few minutes each day enjoying the reading book with your child.

There are instructions for parents and carers on the inside of the front cover and ideas for talking about the books on the inside of the back cover.

Please also continue to encourage your child to learn to recognise and read all of the key words.

Thank you very much  for your continued support.

Teaching Children to Listen

Thursday 9th September

The children have taken home a sheet of paper showing the number that matches their age. Please encourage your child to decorate the number by colouring or painting it. Decorate it any way you like. You could stick glitter or sequins on it. Try cutting out your number too.

Please bring your decorated number back to school by Thursday 16th September 2021 so that we can make a class display.

Thank you for your support.

Miss Mair and Mrs Kilday

Please keep practising the yellow word cards with your child and encouraging them to write inside and around each new phoneme in their small brown jotter.

Thank you again for your support.

Wednesday 8th September

A little reminder about PE.

The children are taking part in gymnastic activities with Mrs Scarisbrick on Tuesdays and fitness games and activities with me on Fridays.

They need to have suitable indoor shoes for lessons in the gym hall and for health and safety reasons, no jewellery can be worn.

Thank you for your suppport.

Mrs Kilday

Tuesday 31st August

The children get quite tired in the afternoon so we have decided to go outside for a short playtime break each day.

Please continue to allow your child to bring water which they can drink in the class and outside and if you want to give them a small extra snack, they can eat it at our afternoon break time.

Monday 30th August

The children now also have a small brown jotter in their zippy bag.  This is their phoneme jotter.  Please encourage your child to practice writing the phoneme inside and around the outline.

There is a note of explanation on the inside cover of their jotter.

The children need to bring their zippy bag to school everyday so that  new words and phonemes can be added.

Thank you once again for your support.

Mrs Kilday

Friday 27th August

The children have brought home a zippy bag which contains a small bag of words which they have been learning to read.

There is also a wee note of explanation in their zippy bag.

We will continue to practise the words in school and new words will be added to their bag regularly.

The children will learn to recognise the words by sight.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Kilday

Friday 20th August

Just a wee note to let you know that our PE days  for the first term are Tuesday and Friday.  The children will need suitable shoes for indoor lessons, preferably slip on or velcro fastening plimsoles or trainers.

No laces please.

The children won’t need to change  for PE this term but the girls might want to wear shorts underneath their skirts or pinafores on gym days.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs Kilday

Wednesday 18th August

The children have a wee note in their school bag to let you know who their Primary 7 buddy is.  The buddies help the children in the playground and will meet them there tomorrow morning.

Hello boys and girls.  I hope you have had a great holiday and are ready for your first day at school.  I am looking forward to welcoming you to your new class and hearing all about the things you have been doing.

Don’t forget to go to bed nice and early.

I know you will be excited about starting school in August.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all.

It’s a shame you can’t come for visit before you start Primary 1.

So, Miss Mair and I have made a  video of the school to let you have a wee peak at what your new classroom and other areas of the school look like.
