{"id":689,"date":"2024-08-31T19:45:38","date_gmt":"2024-08-31T18:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/loudounacademy2022\/?page_id=689"},"modified":"2026-02-07T09:29:30","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T09:29:30","slug":"curriculum-for-excellence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/loudounacademy2022\/curriculum-for-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum for Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>All children and young people aged 3-18 in Scotland experience <em>Curriculum for Excellence <\/em>\u2013 a forward looking, coherent, flexible and enriched curriculum that provides young people with the knowledge, skills and attributes they will need to flourish in life, learning and work, now and in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080\">CONTEXTS FOR LEARNING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The curriculum includes all of the experiences that are planned for children and young people to support the development of their skills, and includes not only those experiences in the classroom to include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Curriculum areas and subjects<\/li>\n<li>Interdisciplinary learning<\/li>\n<li>Ethos and life of the school<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities for personal achievement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080\">BROAD GENERAL EDUCATION (BGE) &amp; SENIOR PHASE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The curriculum has two stages: the broad general education (from the early years to the end of S3) and the senior phase (S4 to S6). The broad general education has five levels (early, first, second, third and fourth). The senior phase is designed to build on the experiences and outcomes of the broad general education, and to allow young people to take qualifications and courses that suit their abilities and interests.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080\">CURRICULUM AREAS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The curriculum areas are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expressive arts<\/li>\n<li>Languages and literacy<\/li>\n<li>Health and wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Mathematics and numeracy<\/li>\n<li>Religious and moral education<\/li>\n<li>Science<\/li>\n<li>Social studies<\/li>\n<li>Technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our learning and teaching activities are based on the outcomes and experiences within these curriculum areas and all learners are entitled to experience these in all eight curriculum areas up to and including the third level \u2013 as far as this is consistent with their learning needs and prior attainment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080\">LITERACY, NUMERACY AND HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing are recognised as being particularly important \u2013 these are seen as being the \u2018responsibility of all\u2019 staff.
