COST OF THE SCHOOL DAY
There are a range of supports available to children and young people and their families to ensure there are no financial barriers to education.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS & CLOTHING GRANT
Parents and carers can check to see if their child is eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and/or Clothing Grant, up to £175 to help with the cost of School Uniform. You must apply each year and entitlement does not roll over from one year to the next. For more information and to apply, please use the following link:
EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE
Students staying on to S5/S6 over the age of sixteen may be entitled to Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) to help support them continuing their education at this stage. EMA is subject to satisfactory attendance at school in full-time education. For more information and to apply, please use the following link:
SCHOOL INITIATIVES
There should be no additional barriers to any young person when they come to school. Some examples of the ways in which we try to reduce the Cost of the School Day include:
- Magic Breakfast (in the Assembly Hall before the school day)
- School Meal Crunch Deal
- Curriculum costs covered e.g. Home Economics, Technical, Art
- Stationary Shop for free study materials
- PE Kit store
- Free Period Products
- School Uniform Bank
We will continue to develop our Cost of the School Day initiatives, led by students in the school who form the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG).
