Resources

S1 pupils are introduced to the library and how it works via a Library Skills induction. This covers topics such as how to find a book, how the library is organised and non-fiction classifications.

There is a large and varied selection of Junior, Teenage and Senior Fiction for pupils to chose from. Reading for pleasure is encouraged as pupils do

better in ALL subject areas across the school as we develop a variety of language and vocabulary skills. Pupils can reserve titles they wish to read and the Library Assistant can help recommend books to suit a pupils needs.

Non Fiction books contain facts and there is a vast number of books which pupils can use to research and gain information on a wide variety of subjects. The Dewey Decimal system is used to organise the topics into ten main subject areas, then divided again accordingly. Non fiction books gives pupils access to information for all subject areas in the school.

Audio books are stocked to encourage the reluctant reader or to give support with pupils with dyslexia, where they an listen and read the story at the same time. The Library also stock Dyslexia Friendly Books and Quick Reads. Short Stories and a small collection of Graphic Novels are also available.

Pupils are welcome to use the Library for revision during exam time or study leave. There is a variety of Study Guides and Past Papers in the Senior Library for pupils to use.
