Welcome to Session 2018 / 19

Dear pupils, parents/carers and school partners, it is a pleasure to welcome you back for the 2018-2019 academic term. I hope you all had an excellent summer break and are refreshed and ready for another great year.

There has been a lot of building works taking place during the summer; these are now all complete and trades are off site. We have had brickwork repairs, window flashing upgrades, new fire doors on the second floor as well as improvements to the car park and traffic management system.

We look forward to starting the new term with a variety of new staff to the school; John Fulton and Briony Masson in PE, Amy Thomson in Social Subjects, Louise Mitchell in Mathematics, Laurie Withers in Technical and Michelle Climo in Art & Design.

Our initial SQA statistics show another good performance, and we await the annual September INSIGHT analysis update to see how we compare against our local and national comparators.

We are in the process of rubber stamping our school improvement plan, and hope to share a condensed version of this with parents in due course.

At the start of the new terms we are focussing on a couple of matters which slipped prior to the summer break;

Uniform – it is fantastic to see the standard of uniform during the first week back, and we ask for pupils and parents to support us on trying to enforce 100% school uniform for all pupils. As well as the obvious academic benefits of wearing school uniform, the health and safety of our pupils is the number one priority, and school uniform significantly assists with this.

Attendance – our average attendance rate slipped below 90% for the first time in a number of years last session. This means, on average, pupils miss one morning or afternoon of school each week.  If we can maximise attendance, we maximise attainment.  Your support on this matter is very much appreciated.

As always, if you have any questions or queries, please contact the school office.

I am looking forward to working in partnership with all pupils, parents/carers and partners moving forward this academic session.

Head Teacher
