Happy Friday everyone! You have all done so well this week. You should be so proud of yourselves.  I really do love seeing all your pictures and videos of your hard work. It makes me smile so much!

Don’t forget our virtual classroom at 11am. Today we will be doing some more number talks so bring your white board and pen with you. We will finish with a fun game of bingo!

Remember to contact me with any questions you may have at all. Just send me a little email and I’ll be happy to help.

I have a special treat for you all today. We have Vanessa showing us a great fun dance with a Scottish twist. Below is the full dance, step by step and talk through the dance. Have some fun with this. Put it on and see if you can follow the steps. Maybe the rest of your house can join in aswell.

NUMERACY

Continue with your sum dog competition please. There might be some coins for those that have started 🙂

TRIANGLES

FRACTIONS

Next week we are going to be looking at finding a tenth of a number by sharing into 10 equal groups. What we are doing today will help us with this.

Do you remember when we counted in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s then linked this with the times tables. Well lets look back at the 10 times table.

1×10=

2×10=

3×10=

4×10=

5×10=

6×10=

7×10=

8×10=

9×10=

10×10=

11×10=

12×10=

Can you solve these calculations?

Remember,

1 x 10 is the same as saying 1 lot of 10 or 1 group of 10.

2×10 is the same as saying 2 lots of 10 or 2 groups of 10.

10 times table

Knowing your 10 times table helps us when we divide by 10.

20 ÷ 10 = 2     we know that     2 x 10 = 20     can you see the link?

Lets try another.

30 ÷ 10 = 3     we know that     3 x 10 = 30    can you see the link?

Lets have a look at dividing by 10. This will help us next week when we look at finding a tenth of a number. Can you solve the following calculations. Use your knowledge of the 10 times table to help you.

10÷10=

20÷10=

30÷10=

40÷10=

50÷10=

60÷10=

70÷10=

80÷10=

90÷10=

100÷10=

CIRCLES

Did you manage to write down all the numbers that add together to make 10?

Here they are below

0 + 10 = 10       10 + 0 = 10

1 + 9 = 10          9 + 1 = 10

2 + 8 = 10          8 + 2 = 10

3 + 7 = 10          7 + 3 = 10

4 + 6 = 10         6 + 4 = 10

5 + 5 = 10

Try to learn these, they will be really helpful to know when doing mental maths calculations. Set a timer and write down as many as you can think of in that time.

I hope you managed to use the strategy of bridging yesterday and solve the calculations I set. Today we are going to look at the language we use when solving addition and subtraction calculations.

Click on the following task to see if you know which words mean to add and which mean to subtract. Write the words under the correct heading.

Addition subtraction language answers

Now read the following word problems and answer the questions using the bridging strategy or a strategy we have learnt already in class.

For example we have been using a hundred square to count on and back.

Creating our own number line, not starting at zero but starting at the number the calculation begins with.

9 + 6 =

We write 9 at the beginning.

Do 6 jumps.

Then we fill in the missing numbers to find our answer. 9 + 6 = 15

7 + 5 =

We write 7 at the beginning.

Do 6 jumps.

Then we fill in the missing numbers to find our answer. 7 + 5 = 12

WRITING

Persuasive writing

I hope you have managed to have a look through the castles and chose your favourite.

Today we are going to create a poster persuading  people to visit your chosen castle – like you are advertising it.

Use your mind map to help you, this has all your great ideas in it. Put in all the attractions that would give people a reason to visit this beautiful castle. Click the link below for more information.
