Literacy

Activity 1: We are practising the sounds that we already know.

The sounds we already know are:

Cut out the letters from your homework sheet. Use the letters to practise making the following words:

pat, sit, ant, tap, nip, sat, pin, tip

*Remember- you must say the words so that you can hear the beginning, middle and end sound. Show your adults at home how to blend the words.

Activity 2: We are practising the common words that we know.

Log onto Sumdog spelling and complete the spelling challenge “Spelling 16.11.20”. Good luck!

Activity 3: We are learning to narrate a story.

Use your child’s Bug Club login to log into Bug Club. Open the book “Storm Friends” You can then either use the ‘read to me’ function or ask your child to narrate the story to you.

Maths and numeracy

Activity 1: We have been learning to add to 5.

Log onto Sumdog maths and complete the addition challenge “Homework 16.11.20”

Activity 2: We are learning to recognise all coins and notes to £20.

Topic activity

Activity 1: We have been learning about the emergency services.

Act it out! Use your toys or someone at home to pretend you are one of the 3 emergency services we have learned about:

  • Fire brigade
  • Police
  • Ambulance

Get someone else to guess what emergency service you are acting out.

e.g. you could pretend you are saving a cat from a tree with your toy figures if you are being the fire brigade.

Activity 1: We are learning to say, read and write the sounds ‘p’ and ‘n ’.

Think of and draw 2 things that have ‘p’ at the beginning, and 2 things that have ‘n’ at the beginning.

Extra challenge: Practise your letter formation. Use your jotter to practise writing ‘p’ and ‘n’.

Activity 2: We are learning to say, read and write the words ‘is’ ‘an’ ‘and’.

Choose an activity to complete to practise making this week’s common words:

Write the words using coloured pencils, a different colour for each word.

Make the words using pasta or rice in your home. Cut letters from a newspaper or magazine and stick them together to make the word. Make the words using natural materials e.g. sticks, leaves, acorns. .

Maths and numeracy

Activity 1: We have been learning to count to 10 and form all the numbers correctly.

Use your bricks or any other toy to practise counting amounts to 10. Then practise forming all numbers from 0-9 in your jotter.

Activity 2: We are learning to recognise all coins and notes to £20.

Use the coins you have in the house to practise recognising the coins: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.

Activity 3: Set up a play shop in your house with some of your toys. Put prices on items and have turns at being the shop keeper. Use the coins you have to practise paying for items and giving pretend change.

Topic activity

Activity 1: We have been learning about jobs in the community.

Find out what jobs people in your family do. Draw a picture of a job you would like to do when you are an adult. Can you say why you would like to do this? What would make you good at this job? What could you get better at?

Last week we learned the sounds ‘s’ and ‘i’. We also learned the common words ‘I’, ‘in’ and ‘it’.

Activity 1: We are learning to say, read and write the sounds ‘s’ and ‘i’.

 

Cut out the ‘s’ and ‘i’ objects and sort these into a ‘s’ pile and an ‘i’ pile. You could also add in other objects from your house.

The sheet with the objects will be in your child’s bag on Tuesday

  • These activities are intended to be carried out across the week. Homework should take no longer than 20 minutes per night.
  • Your child will have a homework jotter in their bag. This should be kept at home and not returned to school. It is for the children to use for any written homework activities.

Treasure hunt! Go on a hunt around your home. Make a pile of items that begin with the sound ‘a’. Then make a pile of items that begin with ‘t’.

Extra challenge: Practise your pencil control. Draw 2 ‘a’ items and 2 ‘t’ items. Make sure you hold your pencil correctly.

Reminder: On Friday, the children can dress up or dress down for school. However, the children must not bring any props into school. Please ensure your child can still go to the toilet independently with their costume on.

 

We will complete Halloween activities throughout the week and have a small Halloween party in the class on Friday afternoon.
