MONDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2022

Good morning P4/5.

I hope you all had a great weekend – now it’s time for us to all have a great week!

Today is ‘National Hello Day’.  It doesn’t take a lot of effort to say hello. It’s one little word that means a whole lot. Hello shows that you are friendly. Saying hello with a smile is a great way to brighten someone’s day. Saying hello is a great way to start a conversation. Generally, when you say hello to someone, they say it back.

Learn to say HELLO in different languages.

Design a HELLO card to send to your friend or family.

ONGOING EXTRA CHALLENGE TODAY

On March 16, National Panda Day draws attention to one of the world’s unique bears. Pandas are also one of the world’s most endangered and adored animals. Conservationists and animal lovers alike spread the word about increasing efforts of the international community dedicated to protecting and restoring habitat.Native to China, giant pandas are members of the Bear family. Their rapidly shrinking habitat is a major cause for concern. As an endangered species, successful panda breeding programs are rare. In the wild, there are approximately only 1,864 and 100 living in zoos around the world. With their white face and black eyes and body, panda bears are easily identifiable. However, their black and white colouring was designed for their natural habitat. They disappear into the snowy mountains and temperate forests of southwest China. And despite their sweet disposition, they tend to isolate themselves in the wild. They eat mostly plants and do not hibernate in the winter like many other bears.

NUMERACY

We missed it, yesterday was Pi Day!

Pi is the mathematical constant that determines the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and the area of a circle to its radius. It is represented by the greek letter p.

Pi’s value is usually taken to be 3.14, hence March 14th, March being the third month. So basically, it is a gag on the date.

The official website of Pi Day can be found at piday.org, where you can find out more about the day and even see Pi calculated to 1 million digits.

Good morning P6/7, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  Today is the start of another great week!

14TH MARCH MORNING CHALLENGE

DAILY TIMETABLE – MONDAY 14 MARCH 2022

HOMEWORK WEEK BEGINNING 14

On March 14th, National Learn About Butterflies Day encourages us to look for a blur of colour as butterflies begin migrating across the country. Each year the celebration brings with it an awareness of the varieties of butterflies and their importance to our survival. Spring and summer are just right around the corner, so it is an excellent time to take a few minutes and learn something new about butterflies and appreciate their beauty. Like bees, bats and other pollinators, butterflies make the difference between valuable fruits and vegetables on our tables. While we’re planting native flowers and trees, we’re also providing for our future. Pollinators such as the Monarch Butterfly and the honey bee have been in decline. All the reasons have not been identified, however, increasing the available habitat does help!

IT’S MEATBALL DAY!

Meatballs are probably a gift from the heavens—there are early recipes for meatballs are found in ancient Chinese, Arabic and Roman texts—and every culture seems to have their own version! Beef, pork, and veal are most popular, but they can be made with chicken, fish or even vegan. Let’s all rejoice on March 9 in honour of National Meatball Day.

Where did meatballs originate?  How do you make them?  Are they healthy for eating?  What other facts can you find out?

EXTRA CHALLENGE

Throughout history, women have fought courageously and tirelessly to assert themselves as individuals and experts in their field.  Groundbreaking designers, space explorers, pilots, political activists and feminists, artists, monarchs and leaders. There is something these inspirational women all share in common: they are all warriors and continue to inspire us in our own modern lives.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, ‘do one thing every day that scares you.’ Below are just a handful of headstrong women who echoed that call to arms and did just that:-

Cleopatra, Rosa Parks, Mary Wollstonecraft, Nora Ephron, Emmeline Pankhurst, Malala Yousafzai, Amelia Earhart, Valentina Tereshkova, Frida Kahlo, Florence Nightingale, Elizabeth Taylor, Coco Chanel, Marie Curie, Edith Cavell

Do some research to see what each woman is known for.
