RABBITS! RABBITS! RABBITS!

Good morning P6/7.  There is a superstition wherein a person should say or repeat the words “rabbit”, “rabbits” and/or “white rabbits” aloud upon waking on the first day of a new  month to ensure good luck for the rest of it.
February is the shortest month with only 28 days, 29 in a leap year! Do you know when the next leap year is?

Good morning Primary 6/7!

TUESDAY MORNING CHALLENGE

NATIONAL MILK DAY

In 1863, French chemist and biologist Louis Pasteur made it possible for milk and other food and drinks to be stored for more extended periods. He developed a method of killing harmful bacteria that is now called pasteurisation.

The United States and Australia export more milk and milk products than any other country. Those products include cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter, cream, powdered milk, and much more. Throughout the world, more than 6 billion people consume milk and the products we make from it. One of the reasons is because milk provides nutrients such as calcium, potassium, vitamin B12, and vitamin A.

The females of all mammal species can produce milk. However, cows produced 85% of all milk worldwide. Apart from cattle, many kinds of livestock contribute milk used by humans including buffalo, goat, sheep, camel, donkey, horse, reindeer, and yak!

  • Make your own cheese.
  • Have a large glass of milk or even a milkshake!
  • Add chocolate, strawberry, or malted flavourings to your milk.
  • Invite a friend for homemade hot chocolate.
  • While drinking your milk, learn more about the nutrients in milk.

MONDAY 10TH JANUARY 2022

Good morning P6/7, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  Today is the start of another great week!

MONDAY MORNING CHALLENGE

LITERACY HOMEWORK 10:1

PLOUGH MONDAY

Plough Monday is the first Monday after Epiphany (12th Night after Christmas).  Plough Monday is the traditional start of the English agricultural year and was an important and fun day for farm workers. In medieval times, it was common for ploughs to be blessed by the church, and for money to be collected for the Plough Light, a flame that would be kept burning throughout the year to bring good luck to the ploughmen and farm labourers.

You could celebrate the ancient festival of Plough Monday with a bread and cheese platter (ploughman’s lunch).  You could also do your own research to find out which other activities relate to Plough Monday.

Don’t forget to complete your SumDog Challenges in class and at home this week!

THURSDAY 6TH JANUARY 2022

Good morning Primary 6/7 – welcome back! I hope you have all had a great holiday and Santa was good to everyone.

The presents have been opened, the puddings eaten and lots of TV has been watched – and now Christmas has been and gone for another year.  But the 5th and 6th of January marks an important date for many people in the Christmas calendar. That is because it is the date of something called Epiphany.

Epiphany comes from the Greek word meaning ‘to reveal’, as it is when the baby Jesus was ‘revealed’ to the world. This is why you might hear people say they’ve had an epiphany, when they’ve just realised something.

The date of Epiphany happens around the time for Twelfth Night. Traditionally, Twelfth Night marks the end of Christmas – 12 nights after Christmas.  Even if you are not at all religious, Twelfth Night is important to a lot of people as all of the Christmas decorations must come down by the time the clock strikes midnight at the end of the day.  It is said to be bad luck if they stay up beyond this, so you may be busy taking down tinsel if you haven’t done it already!
