P6M – Miss McLaren

We have P.E on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please have appropriate clothing and footwear.  As school policy,  jewellery needs to be removed where possible or a letter of consent given to the teacher.  Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

17-21.11.25

We were participating in Book Week Scotland by dropping everything and reading in the afternoon. We enjoyed having the time to read any books we picked. 📚

On Thursday afternoon we had a Book Blurb Quiz in which we had to read the blurbs of 20 books and match them to their front cover.  Again great Communication Meta Skills were observed! Each group did well in the quiz! 👏🏻

On Friday we had ‘Dress as a Word’ day.  There were lots of new words, meanings and outfits! Super job everyone! 🙌🏻

10-14.11.25

This week is Anti-Bullying Week. The work we did this week supports Article 19 – Protection from Harm, of Rights Respecting Schools.  We watched the videos about Noah who was being bullied.

These were very interesting videos which encouraged an insightful discussion about what was happening, how it affected him and those around him plus gaining an understanding of why Grace was bullying him.  These videos helped us develop our Meta Skills on Feelings. As a follow up, we created our own Power For Good posters.

13/14.11.25

In preparation for Children In Need on Friday, we discussed the history and reason for this charity on Thursday. Great Communication Meta Skills were displayed. We learned that it was Pudsey’s 40th Birthday 🎂 We used this information we gathered to create our own Children In Need or Pudsey acrostic poems. Here is a few for you to enjoy.

Thanks for the brilliant support by wearing Pudsey merchandise or yellow or spots on Friday! 👏🏻

4.11.25

We had our final session for Wellbeing Champions today.  We worked in small groups to create possible team names and logos. After that we had a couple of ‘Brain Breaks’ to get us moving. We were also planning how to implement this programme into school life.

31.10.25

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃

This afternoon we had a Halloween party in the class. We did doukin’ for apples 🍎, Witch’s Hat ring toss and had our own selfie booth with props.

30.10.25

Today was our 3rd Minute To Win It Challenge.  We had to get an Oreo cookie down from our forehead to our mouths without using our hands! ✋🏻🤚🏻 This was another tricky challenge that no one completed however, we enjoyed losing as we still got the cookie! 😋

  • Today we also had the task of Disguising a Ghost 👻 Here are our fa-boo-lous disguises!

We also had to work in teams to solve 5 different maths tasks to work out who left the Halloween Escape Room first. Our Meta Skill of Communication was being well used in this task.

29.10.25

This afternoon we tried our second challenge – move the Skittles from one plate to the other plate using the straw. Easy right???…. Maybe not so easy after all! 😂

28.10.25

Today was Session 3 of our Wellbeing Champions program. This week we were learning about Mindfulness and The Power of Yet! To understand mindfulness, we participated in The Zen Den and other activities that regulate our breathing and focus our minds.

In the afternoon we started our Halloween Minute To Win It challenges. Today’s challenge was to blow the spider to the end of the tables in a minute.  We were all successful in this challenge! 🙌🏻

27.10.25

We started doing some Halloween artwork🎃 We learned about Pablo Picasso and his work in Cubism.  We used his style to inspire our own Halloween character drawings.

21.10.25

We had Session 2 of our Wellbeing Champions program. It was focusing on Mental Wellbeing.  We talked about what we can do to help our mental wellbeing and did some brain breaks.  We were also challenged to create an A-Z of Wellbeing. Here is some of our work today…

We’ve had a busy start to P6.  We have been creating our own games to learn the months of the year in French.

Here is Ava’s  amazing origami that she completed at home.

Jack completed a PowerPoint about the the River Nile at home.

This week is Maths Week Scotland (23-26th September 2025).  We successfully completed our first daily challenge today – Broken Squares.

Our second challenge on Wednesday was to work out the minimum number of coconuts that 4 contestants would need for the 4 days left of ‘Stranded’ reality show.  It caught us out but we gave it a really good go!

Wednesday – we also were learning about Money and the different materials/objects that have been used as currency in the past, all over the world.  There were some very interesting things used…

We tried our third daily challenge on Thursday. This one was even harder than previous ones! 2 girls were running though 1 started after the other. Our challenge was to work out when the second girl started. A couple of people came close to the answer. 👏🏻

As part of our novel study “Kensuke’s Kingdom” we went out on Thursday morning to estimate the actual size and draw the boat from the story – Peggy Sue. Here are our efforts – some were extremely accurate! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Many thanks to all of our parents/careers who joined us on Thursday afternoon. We hope you enjoyed playing the games, completing the puzzles and challenge we tried. Hope you are not still trying to figure out the circles to square challenge! ( sorry for blurry pictures)

We have some very talented and creative pupils in our class!!
At the weekend Nuala came first in her dance competition beating 8 others to take the top spot! 🏆🥇

Ava baked Banana Bread (by herself) that was so good that her family helped her eat it all right away! 😋

Also as part of our homework tasks, Katie made a super diorama of a river (with some help from her mum) using natural materials. 🙌🏻

Odin has also been very busy helping his gran to paint this amazing river scene! 👏🏻

30.9.2025
Continuing with our novel study “Kensuke’s Kingdom”, we used our visualisation skills to create these pictures of the island where Michael is stranded from the author’s descriptions on page 53.

1.10.25

Today we were learning CPR by joining in with Restart a Heart Live. Our bags were our willing victims. We have learned how important this training could be in the future.

Checking for a response and breathing before starting compressions.  The video also taught us how to use a defibrillator and that it literally tells you what to do.

2.10.25

We created our own river themed Blackout Poems by deleting words from already published poems. It was very interesting to read what we created from someone else’s words. Here are just a few examples:

5.10.25

We had been learning about the Water Cycle as part of our Rivers topic. Amelia and Jacob M successfully built these 3D models.

7.10.25

Today we joined other East Ayrshire schools in starting our Wellbeing Champions training.

Screenshot

We started by learning what the role of a Wellbeing Champion is.  Then we did some Cosmic Yoga as a break.

We were trying to prove that smiling ISN’T contagious but we failed quite happily! 😂

Our final tasks for this first session were to create t-shirts to show what our emotions would look like if they were on the outside and to write ‘care instructions’ for everyone to be kind.

6.10.25-10.10.25

This week is Dyslexia Awareness Week and we were “Raising the Volume”.

We completed many activities throughout the week such as Dyslexia acrostic poems and designing our own blue awareness ribbons.  Here is some of our amazing work. 🙌🏻
