Water Cycle Dioramas

Well done Sarah!

Dyslexia Awareness Week
This week we have been learning about dyslexia. The majority of the class gave themselves a 5/10 for their knowledge about dyslexia and now they feel more confident in their knowledge, with most of the class giving themselves 8/10.
We have learned a lot this week and watched an amazing film called Mical which was very touching.
We also heard from P7s who encouraged people with dyslexia to ‘own their dyslexia’ and be proud of who they are. Here are some of the tasks and activities we took part in.

Wellbeing Champions
We started our Wellbeing Champions training this week. The Teams call included other classes from East Ayrshire. We have been learning about what Wellbeing means and discussing our emotions. Here are some of the tasks we have been participating in.

Maths Week Scotland / Lloyds Bank / Museum on the Mound
We were challenged by the Museum on the Mound / Scotland’s money museum to create our own coins and they would be turned into badges. We received our badges today and our certificate. We were so excited when the envelope arrived!
Kensuke’s Kingdom
This week we have been completing tasks relating to chapter 3, where the family travel around the world on their yacht stopping off at different places. We had to map their journey using information from the text and annotate our map by adding details from the text. This meant a lot of skimming and scanning and reading very closely. Check out some of our fabulous finished annotated maps.
This week we have learning about blackout poetry. We looked at different types of text relating to the journey of rivers for example, journals, geography books, information texts and different types of poems. We decided what text to black out so that we could make our own poems about the journey of rivers.
Our poems had to include descriptive language / interesting vocabulary and describe the journey of a river but did not need to rhyme. We were very pleased with our finished poems. Have a look at some examples below.

The Journey of a River diagram / poster – Harmony Project
A few of our pupils assisted by Mrs Wilson created this fabulous diagram / poster of a river’s journey from source to sea. We thought it looked very detailed.

Our River Research Posters / Harmony Project
We were given the challenge to create a poster about a river of our choice. In our groups we had to decide which job each person would do, make sure we included a picture and include 5 or more facts. We also had to check our spelling and punctuation. Check out our posters below.

MATHS WEEK SCOTLAND
We had a great time last week during Maths Week Scotland. We learned our new Number Talks Strategy, Landmark / Friendly Numbers, we completed a Noggle each morning and took part in some interesting challenges.

Measuring out our square for ‘Lotto’ We investigated Durer’s Square and found that every row, column, diagonal and 4 squares together equalled 34. We designed our own coins that will be turned into badges thanks to Lloyds Bank. We had to guess items that had been used as money in the past such as shells, tea, cacao beans, buck leather and rope. -
We investigated the longest type of currency which was a Manilla rope used in West Africa!
-
Sierpinski’s Triangle – a fractal which is a pattern that continues and gets smaller each time.

All about us on our favourite footwear
We found some inspirational quotes making us think about our year in P6C.
Calm Before the Storm
Some of P6Cs artwork created by using blue biro and a ruler. They drew what they thought the ‘Peggy Sue’ from Kensuke’s Kingdom would look like in the ocean before the storm hit. We discussed how creating space between the lines, how close the lines were, how short and how long the lines were, would make their artwork look very different. I think it makes their pieces look very effective and very atmospheric!

Novel Study
P6C have shown great enthusiasm for our new novel study ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. They had a class debate about whether the family should go on a round the world trip on their yacht. They looked for evidence in the text to help them with their arguments. There was a vote 16/10 that they should not go. The class are looking forward to finding out what happens next!
P6C have had a go at predicting what our new novel could be about by looking at the front cover of our new novel ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ and looking for clues. Here are some of the things they found.
River Diorama
Kayla has made a fantastic river diorama as part of her home learning and brought it in to show us. She has included many river features and used real materials. What an amazing effort! Well done Kayla! 💫
