P2/3 – Mrs McLachlan and Miss Stobbs

February 2026

This term we are learning about multiplying and dividing.   So far we have learned about making equal groups, adding equal groups and now we are learning the X sign.  Last week we all were enjoying learning about multiplying using the X sign and connecting all our learning so far.  We have learned about ‘lots of’, multiplied by and now X.  We have been using pictorial representations to help us learn and concrete materials.  Here are some photographs of our learning.

6.2.26

Today P2/3 performed their Scot’s poem; The Sair Finger. Everyone has worked so hard to learn our poem in class and at home. We are looking forward to performing it at the Scots Assembly. Today we picked three finalists from our class. This was very difficult as so many of our kids had learned the full poem and were confident.  Well done, everyone!  We all did really well at being a quality audience too while our friends performed.  See below some photos and clips from the poem recitals.

5.2.26

Today for music, we listened to a range of different classical pieces.  We drew a picture for each and explored how the music made us feel.  We talked about the features of the music that made us feel this way.  This helped us with our poetry writing as this week we focused on writing a short poem focusing on emotions and what we hear when we feel them.  P2/3 had some fantastic ideas and were excited to share them on our blog.

29.1.26

Over the next few weeks we are focusing on poems for our writing.  Today we were learning about acrostic poems.  We worked together to create a word bank of words that begin with each letter.  We also wrote a acrostic poem as a class for an example.  P2/3 all did really well at writing their own acrostic poem about winter.  We all managed to start each line with the letter and use winter as our topic for each sentence.  Well done, P2/3.  Here are some examples of our fantastic winter poems.

29.1.26

Today we took part in a range of activities including listening to a story, playing a game, designing our own hat, gloves and scarf set and creating our own winter hat using wax painting techniques in the context of winter.  We also looked at thermostats and looked at the scale and drew on a variety of temperatures.  Below are some of our children who wanted to share their art work on our class blog.

Today we were learning about Scotland with particular focus on tartan. We took part in weaving activities to make our own tartan. We also created our own kilt using the skill of weaving. P2/3 enjoyed creating our own kilt biscuits. We added horizontal and vertical lines using icing to make our kilts. They looked lovely and were very yummy. Here are some photos of our biscuit kilts.

Here is a photo of our finished kilts with our weaving.

As part of our maths we are looking at capacity and measuring volume.  Today we had lots of fun exploring measuring using teaspoons (non-standard units of measure).  We discussed our need for standard units of measure and explored litres.  We looked at how many cups of water we could fill using one litre.  We also focused on language associated with capacity including full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty to describe different volumes.  Here are some photos from today and us working in groups to explore capacity.

In Primary 2/3 we have been working on measure.  We have explored non-standard and standard units of measure.  We have taken part in a range of practical activities including lining up in height order, ordering items by size and describing items using comparative language including taller or shorter.  We particularly enjoyed measuring objects using our shoes, measuring our peers using cubes and exploring measure using cheerio’s.  We have also explored measuring using a rule including using the cm when describing items we have measured.

October

In primary 2/3 we have been exploring different feelings in our health and wellbeing.  We listened to a story about anxiety and talked about times we may feel anxious.  We linked this to our art and design and looked at the painting, “The Scream” by Edvard Munch.  We enjoyed creating our own background focusing on the lines and waves of the artist technique.   We also enjoyed taking a photo of our own anxious face to complete our artwork.  We are very proud of our artwork and decided to display it outside our class.
