24.4.25 Time – the Seasons
We were learning about the different season as part of time. For Spring we painted cherry blossom trees using paint brushes and finger painting. Take a look at our amazing art!
23.4.25 Numeracy – time – half past the hour
This week we are learning how to show and tell half past the hour on both an analogue and digital clock. We need to remember to point the hour hand half way between the numbers and the minute hand ALWAYS points to the 6.
31.3.25 Numeracy – Time – o’clock
We have started a new concept and are learning about time. We discussed where we see clocks and why we need to tell the time. We made our own analogue clocks to show o’clock on.
Literacy – digraph wh 31.3.25
This week we are learning to spell, read and write words starting with the digraph wh.
24.3.25 Numeracy – Fractions
This week we are focussing on fractions mainly halves and quarters. We started today with the story – Give me half by Stuart Murphy.
We then made pizzas choosing to either show halves or quarters. We have been learning to write the fractions 1/2 and 1/4.
Take a look at our pizzas and the yummy topping we put on the halves or quarters.
In art, we will be making halving art using squares and circles.
We will be halving and quartering numbers within 10 later in the week. We have to share the amounts equally using sharing boards.
17.3.25 – 21.3.25
This week we are discussing neurodiversity in our class, learning that people all learn in different ways and that we all need different supports to help us.
PE – Hockey 18.3.25
Over the past few weeks we have been learning the following skills in hockey.
- Control the ball when standing still.
- Control the ball when moving.
- Control the ball when moving around the cones.
- Pass the beanbag using the hockey stick to a partner.
- Shoot and score!
Each session we have observed each other and given feedback regarding control.
Fire Engine Visit 10.3.25
Today, the Cumnock fire fighters brought the fire engine for us to see. We got to go inside it, put on their helmet and uniform. They showed us the big long hoses, ladders and the amazing jaws of life! When we were at the front of the engine they put the blue lights on and the sirens. The sirens were very loud!!

The children drew pictures of the fire engine visit and we have sent them to the fire fighters to say thank you.
World Book Day 6.3.25
We had lots of fun listening to stories, drawing and writing about being dressed up as our favourite character, a Julia Donaldson book hunt and making book marks for World Book Day.
Literacy – strong th digraph 4.3.25
This week in literacy the children are working on the strong th digraph e.g. this, that, then using a variety of resources.
Numeracy – subtraction within 10 3.3.25
We have started learning about subtraction within 10 and 20. We are learning to use concrete materials, our fingers or a number line to help us take away. Some of us just know the answer!

This week we are learning bout the soft the digraph. At the teaching table we were saying, making, blending, reading and writing th words.

Vets from Crossriggs visit – 20.2.25
Yesterday, we had a visit for the vet and veterinary nurse from Crossriggs to tell us all about their jobs. They showed us how they care for the animals. We asked them questions about their job.
Numeracy – Addition stories of 18.2.25
This week we are learning about the addition stories of 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9. We have been using different resources to help us work out the different addition calculations for each story of.
People who help us – doctors working in the hospital
This week we have been learning about the job of a doctor both in the surgery and in a hospital. Yesterday, we were learning about radiology and x-rays. We look closely at x-rays for different parts of our bodies and watched a video about the radiology department. We then drew our own x-rays. Take a look!
We had to look carefully and ensure all the bones were drawn on our x-rays.
People who help us – a visit from a nurse 30.1.25
As part of our topic on people who help us we had a visit from Nicola, who is a nurse at Crosshouse hospital. She came in to tell us all about her job and how she cares for her patients. She even showed us how to carefully bandage someone’s arm if it is hurt.
The next day we wrote thank you cards to her.
Numeracy – adding on 30.1.25
In Numeracy, we are learning about adding on 0, 1, 2 and 3. We have been using different resources to help us add.
We used the number jigsaws to make addition calculations. We had to read the addition calculations on the pipe cleaners and put on the right amount of beads e.g. 8 + 1 = 9, 8 red beads and 1 blue bead so we have 9 altogether. We used the dominoes to help us write and answer addition calculations.
We have been learning to use different strategies to help us add within 10. We have used gems, counters, our fingers and number lines. Some of us just knew the answer!
Traffic police visit 21.1.25
The traffic police came to show us the police car and all the equipment they use. We got to sit in the police car and some of us got to turn the sirens on.
People who help us 17.1.25 Police
Did you hear? We had a crime in our classroom! All our books and reading tent were stolen.
We had to write crime reports of who we thought stole our books, why they stole and how they got in.
We also had our fingerprints taken. We discovered we are all unique, having our own fingerprints. We looked closely through magnifying glasses to see what kind of patterns we have.
PC Aitken our campus police officer also came in to tell us she had solved the case with all our help. She brought PC Shirkie with her and they showed us their uniform and all the equipment they use.
Bug Club
Your child has been allocated a reading book on Bug Club. Their username & password has been attached to their January Homework grid. Please encourage your child to read their book to you each day (Monday – Thursday) and complete all the bugs by Friday. Many thanks.
Literacy 8.1.25
We were learning to read CVC and CVCC words on lolly sticks and then spell out the words using pegs.
Numeracy 8.1.25
This week we are consolidating the numbers 10 to 20 especially 11, 12, 13 & 15 in recognition. We were reading the numbers and counting out the correct number of small beads for our Stripy target.
Literacy 10.12.24
We have been having a go at spelling 3 and 4 letter words. We have to say it, sound it out and make it then we need to check it.
2d shapes 9.12.24
We are continuing to learn about 2d shapes using them to create pictures.
We also used lollipop sticks to make different 2d shapes.

We have been learning about 2d shapes in the world around us. We look around our classroom for 2d shapes and we printed with 2d shapes. Come and have a look.
Literacy – the phoneme – o 27.11.24
Today we started learning about the phoneme o. We discovered it was a vowel and we have to use the word an when writing words starting with o in a sentence.
We were using the five fingered spelling rule at the teaching table to spell words containing o.
We also had fun making an octopus at the tuff tray ensuring it had 8 tentacles. We had a go writing It is an octopus using a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop. We took a photograph of our work.

Literacy – the phoneme – f 25.11.24
We are learning all about the phoneme f.
We painted and drew pictures of things beginning with f.
We have also been learning to write the letter – f.
We had a go at fishing for phonemes and CVC words. Look at the phonemes and words we caught!
Book week 18.11.24 Everyone read in class
Each day this week we will be taking time to read and look at a book from home or the class library. We talked about characters, plots, settings, authors and illustrators.
Look, we found a comfy and cosy place to read a book on our own.
We also made our own books and put them in the book corner for others to read.
15.11.24 Children in Need
In our class we supported Children in Need by wearing everything spotty.
We had to read numbers and put the correct number of spots on Pudsey. We made Pudsey using playdough and we coloured in Pudsey and cut him out.
11.11.24 Our reading parents/carers workshop
Our parent/carers came in to participate in different reading activities with us and to learn about Bug Club. We had fun reading words and painting the picture or reading the word and making the item using play dough.
We also looked at the picture, sounded it out and found the letters to spell out the CVC words, then we wrote it.
For our target we had to read the word, spell it into elkinon boxes and then draw it.
11.11.24 Remembrance Day
The children observed the 2 minutes silence for Remembrance Day and then we used chalk pastels to create poppy pictures. Take a look at our amazing art work. We used the pastels and then smudged the colour to create an effect in our artwork.
6.11.24 Missing Numbers
We have been learning to find the missing numbers within 10 and 20.
We have also been learning to write our numerals up to 20.
31.10.24
We have been learning to count out between 10 and 20. We have been talking about the numbers being double digit.
