John Muir Award!

P5-7 started earning their John Muir Award in January 2020. The John Muir Award is a great opportunity for both adults and children to engage with local wildlife. Spending time in natural spaces is great for our mental wellbeing and is also lots and lots of fun!

John Muir Award’s ‘Mission: Explore’ workbook has lots of ideas for fun outdoor tasks, including the task I did in the video:

Walk 1000 steps …… to enjoy and explore your local natural surroundings. Be extra observant and look in all directions to notice nature.

There are plenty of opportunities to complete this award even though we are learning from home right now. Remember, sharing what you are doing for the award at home is very important, especially when I can’t be with you right now to witness all of your hard work.

Upload videos or photos to our John Muir Award page on Teams or ask a parent or carer to email me. If you spend only 1 hour a day doing an activity which will contribute to your John Muir Award we will easily get it completed before the end of the school year! I have uploaded a John Muir ‘Mission: Explore’ checklist on to the John Muir Award channel on our Teams page to help you.

Looking towards a bright future!

Over the past week pupils in Primary 5-7 have been getting involved in a competition run by J. Lindsay Opticians in Kilmarnock. The pupils have been designing their own pair of glasses and are in with a chance of winning a selection of books by David Walliams!

Here are some of the wonderful designs. Well done boys and girls! I would like a pair of each.

Emilia’s design:

Weronika’s design:

Samuel’s design:

If anyone else would like a chance of winning this great prize, there’s still time to enter! Just send your picture of your glasses design to your teacher and we will enter it into the competition for you. Or, if you want to send it directly you can email it to foregate@jlindsayopticians.co.uk.

If you don’t want to draw your own outline you can print off an outline and colour it in!

Happy Birthday Captain Tom Moore!

Today is Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday! Captain Tom is a World War 2 veteran who has raised £30 million for the NHS recently by walking 100 laps of his garden.

An estimated 150,000 people have sent Captain Tom Moore birthday cards over the past few weeks after learning about all of his achievements and efforts to raise money. One of those people is our very own Samuel! We are very proud of the kindness you have shown, Samuel.

Do you think you could do 100 laps of your garden today to honour Captain Tom Moore? If you don’t have a back garden, why not try 100 laps of your front path?

Keep being hardworking. Keep being honest. Keep being respectful. However, more importantly, keep having fun and keep safe.

Update:

Weronika’s lovely effort!
