What can you make with a cardboard box ?

We’ve all been shopping online for the last couple of months, so maybe you’ve got some empty cardboard boxes waiting to be recycled.  Why not get creative with your child and find some imaginative ways to incorporate them into their play.  The children always get excited when we bring empty boxes into the ECC and have had hours of fun with them.  Here’s a few ideas to give you some inspiration.

Have You Got a Sunshine S M I L E

I know you all have a beautiful Sunshine Smiles and as  it’s National Smile Month, I thought we could cheer up everyone and encourage them to smile too by singing our smile song.  The words are here to remind you….join me as we sing and remember to.………

Brush your teeth

Twice a day

Top, back and Underneath.

Sing along with me(video below)

Have you got a Sunshine S M I L E

Have you got a Sunshine S M I L E

Everywhere you go

Let the people know

That you have a Sunshine Smile.

When you have finished singing, perhaps you could play a game of eye-spy something beginning with each of the letters in smile : S-M-I-L-E.  Have fun and keep smiling!

Healthy routines game.

Routines are important for keeping us healthy and safe. Look at the pictures and see if you can guess which routines I am following and practice doing them each day. Can you guess what I’m doing, then be creative and make some of your own.

Send me some pictures of routines you follow. Remember to keep washing your hands and brushing your teeth😁

Ice cube tray counting and sorting

Ice cube trays or muffin tins are a great resource to help promote your child’s maths and numeracy skills.  Early sorting skills can be promoted using a variety of items you have around the house including counters, beads or buttons.  Counting one item into one cube at a time also helps children to understand that numbers represent quantities.

National Smile Month – Healthy snack

As today marks the start of National Smile Month, I thought you could help grown ups make a healthy snack. See photos and instructions below.

1.Always wash hands and any fruit or Vegetables you use before starting.

2.Have a look around your kitchen and use what vegetables you can find. I used cucumber, carrots, tomatoes and peppers as I know you all enjoy them in nursery.

3.Peel your veg and cut into sticks or any shape you like.

4.Place on board or in bowl and put to side for later.

Dip:

1.Open can of chickpeas, remember to keep some of the liquid.

2.Mash chickpeas with fork or hand blender, adding a teaspoon of the liquid you saved earlier. For a change, try swapping chickpeas with garden peas or baked beans drained.

3.Separate mixture between 2 smaller bowls and add flavouring to taste. I used sweet chilli sauce in one and a mix of mayonnaise and curry powder in the other. Experiment with your own flavours.

  1. Enjoy😁

Send your pictures to me : anna.brown@eastayrshire.org thank you

DIY Telephone

Being able to listen and pay attention are important skills that children need so that they can communicate positively with others.  Making and playing with diy telephones is a good way  for children to practise these skills.  Yoghurt pots or paper cups and string are all you need to make your own phones.  Children might want to decorate them with paint, stickers or whatever you have in the house.

Make a dice and play a game

*Find a cuboid shape box like the one  in my picture.

*Cover your cuboid with old wrapping paper turned plain side out.

*Mark spots on to make a dice.

  • Roll your dice

*Count the spots

  • Count out same number of spots using sticks, pebbles, buttons or anything you can find at home, onto a grid like the one we made last week.

  • Mrs Brown would love to see your work, can you take a picture and e mail it to me please. Here’s my e mail address
