Ice lollies to keep you cool

Here are some recipe ideas for making your own ice lollies especially now the weather is hot again. If you don’t have lolly moulds, use yogurt pots or plastic cups or tumblers. You could even make mini lollies in ice cube trays. Be inventive and use what you have. You could even try your own recipe ideas. Have fun inventing and making your lollies and enjoy eating them. You could even have a family race to see who eats theirs quickest!

Loose Parts Art

Why don’t you go outside in this nice weather and get creative.  There are lots of natural resources you can collect in your garden or in the surrounding area that you could use including sticks, stones, grass and leaves.

Creative cutting skills

Cutting with scissors is essential to our fine motor and pre writing skills. This activity should only be carried out with adult supervision.

  1. First you will need to gather scissors, paper and a pen.

  1. Next, be creative making lines, squiggles and zig zag marks on your paper.

  1. Now the fun begins. Holding your paper in one hand and scissors in the other, practice your skills cutting along the lines. Always remember to turn the paper, keeping the scissors pointing forward away from your body. Enjoy!😘

Bigger or Smaller

Here’s a fun activity where children can explore mathematical language while outdoors. We have played this game in the ECC a number of times but you can adapt it to suit your own circumstances.

The Benefits of Reading to Children

Reading is one of the best ways to develop expressive language due to the illustrations and predictable text.

Ideas To Try:

Read a page in a book and then have your child read to you
Have your child name pictures and expand on anything your child says. For example, if your child says “cow,” expand with “black and white cow.”
Ask your child to predict what might happen next.
Have your child “read” to you!
What You Are Working On:

Everything!
Vocabulary
Early narrative structure
How?

By reading the same book every night…and yes, repeating books is a GOOD thing… your child has lots of repetitive exposure to story structure, vocabulary, prediction skills, grammar and more!
