Teaching in isolation is not as effective as constant reinforcement of skills and knowledge through engaging in high quality text.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3366ff\">\u00a0<a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/literacytrialsite\/2020\/08\/03\/universal-professional-literacy-learning-2020-2021\/\">SAC DUG<\/a> <\/span>(Scottie the Attainment Canine: Delivering Understandable Grammar is the Grammar and KAL suite of learning created by the SAC Literacy team) provides structure and context by suggesting links to cross- curricular contexts as well as texts being explored.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/literacytrialsite\/2020\/08\/04\/sac-dug\/sac-dug\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-143\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-143\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/literacytrialsite\/uploads\/sites\/16803\/2020\/08\/04121053\/SAC-DUG.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A whole school approach to the teaching of punctuation and grammar should focus on creating a <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/literacytrialsite\/2020\/08\/03\/active-listening-and-talking\/\">language rich environment<\/a> <\/span>where correct grammar is modelled by all staff and quality text is read and shared daily. Regular and explicit instruction about how sentences are formed should be provided. <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/55-SIwjXngI\">The teacher\/practitioner models<\/a><\/span> the correct terminology before expecting pupils to use the terms accurately.
