{"id":6744,"date":"2021-01-18T13:35:14","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T13:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/?page_id=6744"},"modified":"2021-05-23T09:50:19","modified_gmt":"2021-05-23T09:50:19","slug":"daily-walk-burns-night-25-1-21","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/daily-walk-burns-night-25-1-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Walk &#8211; Burns Night Theme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are 4 different ideas for you to add\u00a0 some Burns related activities to your Daily Walk in the days before, during\u00a0 and after Burns Night on 25th January.\u00a0 The suggestions include activities suitable for learners working from Early to Second Level.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Initial Sound or Letter Hunt<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Choose a word with a link to Robert Burns,\u00a0 Burns Suppers or a Burns poem.\u00a0 \u00a0We have chosen the word &#8216;haggis&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>On your walk, see if you can spot things that begin with each sound or letter of your chosen word.\u00a0 \u00a0Make this more challenging by finding each thing in sequence: you cannot start until you have found something beginning with H and then you can move on to something beginning with A and so on.<\/p>\n<p>This is what we found &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>H <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0house<\/p>\n<p><strong>A <\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0ants<\/p>\n<p><strong>G<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gate<\/p>\n<p><strong>G<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 girl<\/p>\n<p><strong>I <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0insect<\/p>\n<p><strong>S<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 sign<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Use your chosen word and what you have found on your walk to write a simple acrostic poem.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here is our simple poem based on <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/uploads\/sites\/11891\/2021\/01\/18131222\/HAGGIS.pdf\">HAGGIS<\/a> but you can use\u00a0 rhymes and more interesting vocabulary (adjectives, adverbs, similes or metaphor) and use what you have been learning elsewhere in Writing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 If you have been learning Scots poems, use them to make your walk even more interesting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following two poems are for learners\u00a0 working at Early Level.\u00a0 \u00a0Can you say \/learn your poem as you walk along?\u00a0 Can you add new verses based on what you see around you?
