{"id":6527,"date":"2021-01-11T08:55:10","date_gmt":"2021-01-11T08:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/?page_id=6527"},"modified":"2023-02-06T14:21:23","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T14:21:23","slug":"outdoor-workout","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/outdoor-workout\/","title":{"rendered":"Outdoor Workout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Outdoor Workout<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For teachers, outdoor workout sessions meet the PE Experiences and Outcomes in the movement skills, competencies and concepts organiser.\u00a0 See First Level <strong>HWB 1-21a <\/strong>and <strong>HWB 1-22a;<\/strong> Second Level<strong> HWB 2-21a<\/strong> and<strong> HWB 2-22a.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>EAC teachers can find other PE support material in HWB at the EAC Home Learning and Teaching Sharepoint on Glow.<\/p>\n<p>Creating your own outdoor workout will help you to maintain your fitness and could become part of your weekly or even daily routine.\u00a0 You can vary the activities you work on each session or you can repeat your workouts trying to improve on your performance each time.\u00a0 Aim to make your workout last for between 15 to 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Will Need:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A safe outdoor space away from traffic, trip and slip hazards<\/p>\n<p>A stop-watch, phone or watch (not essential but helpful)<\/p>\n<p>String or chalk (not essential but helpful)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What You Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Plan a sequence of 4 or more activities you can do in your chosen space that increase your breathing and heart rate.<\/p>\n<p>Suggestions to get you started \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hop\/run\/skip<\/strong> between two markers placed 3m or more apart. How long does it take ? How many times can you repeat in 4 minutes?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Standing push ups<\/strong> against a tree or wall. Place two hands on the tree trunk or wall with your feet about 50 cm away from the base of your object (so you have to lean in to reach).\u00a0 Keeping your hands in place, push yourself up and away.\u00a0 Repeat 30 times.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jump across a line.<\/strong> Find a line (a crack between paving stones) or make a line using chalk, string or a stick laid on the ground. Stand\u00a0 to one side with your feet parallel to the line. Keep your feet together and jump from side to side across the line. How many jumps can you make in 1 minute?<\/li>\n<li>Do some <strong>jumping jacks.\u00a0<\/strong> How many can you do in 4 minutes?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can record your workouts on a simple sheet <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/uploads\/sites\/11891\/2021\/01\/11085414\/My-workout-record.pdf\">My Workout Record<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have created a ThingLink image that you could share with your pupils.\u00a0 This would give them a different way to access and work through the activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinglink.com\/scene\/1410587511402528770\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Outdoor Workout ThingLink<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will find many more ideas for your outdoor workout in\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.owlscotland.org\/images\/uploads\/resources\/files\/Workout_Guide2020.pdf\">Woodland Workout<\/a> .
