{"id":4576,"date":"2020-06-08T13:47:53","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T13:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/?page_id=4576"},"modified":"2020-06-08T14:11:22","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T14:11:22","slug":"cloud-gazing-and-mindfulness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/cloud-gazing-and-mindfulness\/","title":{"rendered":"Cloud Gazing and Mindfulness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The weather is all around us and, in Scotland, we sometimes see more cloudy, rainy days than we would like!!<\/p>\n<p>Getting outdoors in all weathers is great fun and it helps develop learning in so many ways.\u00a0 You can think about risks of going out in different weathers, what clothes we need to wear for different types of weather, explore the impact caused by different types of weather and how different weathers make us feel.<\/p>\n<p>We have shared some lessons here for early level learners to explore the weather using their senses:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/public\/learningoutdoorssupportteam\/uploads\/sites\/11891\/2020\/05\/01123604\/Weather-Activities.pdf\">Weather Activities<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Equally, it is important to learn about the weather and how it works. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/met-office-for-schools\">The UK Met Office <\/a>produces fantastic materials for schools &#8211; lesson plans and resources for learning indoors and outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>Lessons are grouped by age and topic, are fully resourced\u00a0 with printable materials and video clips.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/met-office-for-schools\/resources-for-7-11\">Age group 7-11<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/met-office-for-schools\/resources-for-11-14\">Age group 11-14<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCylCbuzRsB92Gc1l8ru6VIg\">YouTube Channel &#8211; The Met Office Learn About the Weather<\/a> includes films which introduce the science of weather and climate and films which simply show us what an amazing planet we live on.<\/p>\n<p><b>Meditation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Doctors in Scotland are now prescribing nature for Health and Wellbeing. Walking, bird watching and even cycling can give us time away from hustle and bustle.\u00a0 Our colleague Hannah Polland, from the East Ayrshire Council TAP Team has very kindly shared a video with us.\u00a0 The video tells a story called &#8216;<em>Just Be<\/em>&#8216; which Hannah is the author of and features her wonderful illustrations too.\u00a0 The video explores and encourages mindfulness and highlights the outdoors as being the perfect setting to relax in.
