Write a Guide to a Wild Place<\/strong><\/p>\n

CfE Es and Os\u00a0 LIT\u00a0 1 -26a and LIT 2 -26a<\/p>\n

Find a wild area in in your garden, local park or other greenspace.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t need to be big \u2013 it might be a neglected corner, or a single container that has been given over to wildlife.\u00a0 Write a\u00a0 guide to the area, and explain what wildlife it supports and why it is important.\u00a0 Your guide can take the form of a single sheet, a leaflet or a booklet.<\/p>\n

Choose 3 or more features (a\u00a0 bird feeding station, wildflowers, a rock pile, a fallen or living tree – for example) that are important to the wild place.\u00a0 Draw or take photographs to illustrate your guide.\u00a0 Use text to provide more information.<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

Take a member of your household to visit the wild place.\u00a0 Act as the guide and local expert.\u00a0 Show the visitor around and\u00a0 tell them all about the exciting things that use the wild space and what makes places like this so important.<\/p>\n

Use animal tracks and signs spotter guides and to find clues about the creatures\u00a0 that use an outdoor space when we are not there.\u00a0\u00a0The graphics and text in these guides work together to help\u00a0 us understand some of the clues left by living things that use our outdoor spaces.<\/p>\n

Learning to be aware and taking notice of what is around us are important skills to have.\u00a0 \u00a0By developing these skills we are\u00a0 also developing our ability to understand clues and hidden meanings in stories and other pieces of text.<\/p>\n

If you can, print out the spotter guides suggested below or download them to your phone.\u00a0 Take the guides with you on a walk in your garden or local green space.\u00a0 What wildlife neighbours can you track?<\/p>\n
