World Book Day
Our S1 and S2 pupils have been taking part in the first round of the Readers’ Cup Quiz this week to celebrate World Book Day. For those who make it through – the interclass round will be held in April.
Members of our S1 book club visited Glasgow to see the ceremony for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards this week. Pupils also had the chance to buy books and get them signed by the authors.
The winners of the design-a-bookmark competition have been chosen – thanks to everyone who entered!
Harry Potter Book Night
Harry Potter Book Night is on Thursday 4th February. It’s a chance for fans of Harry Potter to celebrate the books and share them with other people who might not have read them yet.
This year, Bloomsbury publishers are running a competition for pupils to win a Harry Potter event for their school. There are also 25 sets of Harry Potter books to be given away. All you have to do is create your own magic spell. Collect an entry form from the library.
Book Review Competition
Book review competition for pupils aged 11 – 16. Do you think you could read a whole book by the end of January? I am looking for pupils to take part in a book review competition for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards. To take part, you’ll have to read one of this year’s nominated titles and complete a short book review. There’ll be a small prize for the best review from KA and all reviews will be entered into the national competition for another chance to win. Collect a book and an entry form from the school library this week. Deadline Friday 29th January. Book club members who have already read the books are welcome to enter.
Book Week Scotland
Happy Book Week!
Our Guess the Character competition is running all week. Pupils can collect an entry form from the library. Hand completed forms back in by the end of the day on Friday.
Have a look at classroom doors round the school to find out what books your teachers are currently reading.
English classes will be invited to our half-price Scholastic book fair over the next few days. Pupils can also visit at break and lunch.
S1 scary story competition
The winner of the scary story competition is Mia Hay (1W). The runnners up are Andrew Maxwell (1F), Bailey Douglas (1S) and Sofia Saleem (1B). Prizes will be issued this week! Well done to everyone who took part. There were lots of great story ideas.
Readers’ Cup Success!
The team from K.A. won the Readers’ Cup Quiz today at Stewarton Academy. The competition has been running since 2005 and this is the first time Kilmarnock Academy has won the trophy! With a fantastic score of 47/50 we beat teams from Auchinleck, Grange, Stewarton and St. Joseph’s. Congratulations to our team members and a huge thank you to our reserves and supporters who came along with us on the day 🙂 Also, a special mention to the S2 book club who made us a team banner for our table.
Staff and pupils at K.A. can visit the library’s Glow pages for more information and for photos.
Library Events January and February 2015
Blind Date with a Book
This Valentine’s Challenge is running until the end of February. All you have to do is borrow a book from the special display in the library and complete a very short review. You have to choose the book based on its description – you won’t be able to see what the book is until you leave the library! One person who hands in their review will be chosen at random to win the prize!
Harry Potter competition
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Do you have a good imagination? Are you pretty good at drawing? If you answered yes to ANY of these you should enter the Harry Potter Book Night competition being run by Bloomsbury publishers. Collect an entry form from the library. Closing date 6th February.
