{"id":1091,"date":"2016-01-13T09:12:31","date_gmt":"2016-01-13T09:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/kilmarnockacademy\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2016-01-14T08:21:24","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T08:21:24","slug":"s-56-employability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/ea\/kilmarnockacademy\/2016\/01\/13\/s-56-employability\/","title":{"rendered":"S 5\/6 Employability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Visit to our business partner Premier Inn, Newton Mearns \u2013 Tuesday 8<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"> December 2015<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Two managers hosted the visit \u2013 Colin and Julie.<\/p>\n<p>We were shown a video made for the workforce to inspire and encourage their performance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Premier Inn policy for evaluating potential in employees is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CURIOSITY\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0wanting to find things out, how to do things<\/p>\n<p>DRIVE\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 personal ambition<\/p>\n<p>INSIGHT\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0able to learn fast \u2013 process data<\/p>\n<p>COURAGE\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0have an inner confidence, can take on different challenges, make decisions<\/p>\n<p>IMPACT\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 emotional and social intelligence, cares about people<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Premier Inn which is a part of Whitbread, is 8<sup>th<\/sup> in the top 10 of British companies to work for. Workers (between 40 and 50K\u00a0 employees) get discount cards, can buy discounted shares.<\/p>\n<p>There are apprenticeships and graduate entry programmes. Fast track training in 12 months. Businesses find recruitment time consuming and expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Both the managers came to hospitality from elsewhere. 4 years ago Julie was a housekeeper in Newton Mearns, now she is the manager at East Kilbride. Colin has a degree in Engineering design but worked in hospitality while completing his studies. He is the manager at Ayr.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Inn open a new hotel every week. They have hotels in the Middle East and are about to open apart\/hotels in Germany. There is a HUB hotel in London with one about to open in Edinburgh.
