Literacy
Reading
This term, we will be focusing on reading comprehension. Pupils will have the chance to read short texts from The Literacy Box and on Giglets. We will be focusing on the comprehension strategy ‘inference’.
Pupils will also be encouraged to read for enjoyment, participating in ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class) time.
Writing
This term P7b we will be exploring imaginative writing. Pupils will look at a variety of aspects of imaginative writing including – character, setting and plot. They will learn about the techniques authors use in order to engage their reader.
Pupils will also develop their recount writing skills, ensuring that they can retell a story in chronological order.
Spelling
We will continue to explore the Active Spelling strategies using Stage 6/7 of the Active Literacy Scheme.
Numeracy & Maths
This term we will be exploring:
- Place Value
- Estimation and Rounding
- Number and Number Processes
- Information Handling
- Number Talks
Health & Wellbeing
Our focus this term in HWB will be about the brain, friendships, relationships and sexual health. We will also create a Class Charter while looking at the UNRC.
In PE, we will be focussing on athletics and developing skills in:
- Cross-country
- Sprinting
- Throwing
- Jumping
PE days for Primary 7 are a Wednesday and a Friday. Please ensure gym kit is worn on PE days and that pupils are dressed for the weather as we may be outdoors.
Sports Topic
All children in Primary 7 voted to have a Sports topic in Term 1. We will be learning:
- The history of different sports
- The most popular Scottish sports hero (past and present)
- To learn new sports and to take part in practical activities
- To research sports stars
- To learn about less popular sports
- How to host and organise a sports event.
Pupils will also participate in individual and group research projects, encouraging them to lead their own learning and to build on cooperative learning skills.
