Literacy & Language
In Term 2, we will be using the Active Literacy spelling strategies and activities to develop our spelling knowledge and explore new and extended phoneme representations.
We will be completing our work on the novel Wonder focusing on adding detail to answers during comprehension tasks. We will also look at the key features of information texts, summarising and creating our own texts.
We will be using VCOP to develop our writing and using the novel as a stimulus as well as learning more about how to write a Narrative piece of text and consider how to develop our skills in Functional writing such as instructions and reports.
MLPS
This term we are going to be learning Gaelic with our visiting teacher every Monday. We will also continue to learn some French too.
Numeracy & Mathematics
This term we will be continuing with our Number Talks, following the school strategy of the week, to develop our mental numeracy skills.
In Numeracy we will be learning about multiples, factors and prime numbers; subtracting, multiplying and dividing; multiplying and dividing by 10/100/1000 and solving word problems.
During our non-number lessons, we will learn more about 2D and 3D shapes, special triangles and parts of a circle.
Health & Wellbeing
This term we will look at Firework Safety, emotional health and we will cover aspects of our RSHP (sexual health)
In PE we will be continuing to develop our hockey skills and will extend our learning of Basketball.
Social Subjects and Interdisciplinary Learning
Our topic for our second term is ‘The Victorians’. We will be learning about:
- Why it is called The Victorian era
- Queen Victoria and her role
- School days in this era
- The lifestyle of a workhouse child
- Victorian Inventions
- A Victorian Christmas
Our Expressive Arts will link to our topic and Christmas.
ICT
In ICT we will be using ipads to create animations and chromebooks to develop our research skills across the curriculum.
RME
This term we will be studying the celebration of Advent as we lead up to Christmas.
