Term 4 2023/2024

Literacy & Language

In Term 4, we will be using the Active Literacy spelling strategies and activities to develop our spelling knowledge and explore phonemes.

We will be revisiting fiction texts through short stories to develop our understanding of using reading strategies including visualization, metalinguistics and using the text to answer different types of questions. We will be working in reading circles to complete our literacy tasks.

We are focusing on our listening and talking skills, actively participating in group discussions.

In our writing we will be looking developing our knowledge of how to write a balanced argument looking at a variety of topics

.

Numeracy & Mathematics

This term we will be continuing with our Number Talks, following the school strategy of the week, to develop our mental numeracy skills.

We will be focusing on the following concepts:

  • Identifying and ordering fractions
  • Finding equivalent fractions and simplifying
  • Finding a fraction of a quantity
  • Linking fraction knowledge to percentages

In maths, we will be looking at 3D shapes and their properties and data handling. This will include gathering data and displaying them on different graphs.

Health & Wellbeing

In our health and wellbeing we will be focusing on continuing with our work on neurodiversity and the brain. We will then explore water safety.

Developing the Young Workforce will also remain as focus as we will have our World of Work Week later this term.

In PE we will be developing our athletics skills in preparation for Sports Day.

Social Subjects and Interdisciplinary Learning

This term we will be doing a science unit looking at the following topics:

  • Light and shadows
  • Mini beasts
  • Chemical reactions

We will be carrying out a variety of experiments throughout these units and will be writing up our results in reports.
