Term 4 2023/2024

Literacy

Reading – This term we will be looking at ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl as a novel study which links to our topic of Chocolate this term.

Pupils will also be given regular ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class) time as part of our weekly timetable.

Writing –   This term we will be looking at persuasive writing and thinking about the language and tone which is required to convince someone of your argument.

Spelling –   We will continue to explore Active Spelling strategies using Stage 4/5 of the Active Literacy Scheme.

Numeracy & Maths

This term we will be tackling Coordinates and 3d Shape while also going back to revise our knowledge of the four functions (+, -, x and ÷).

We will also continue to develop our mental maths capabilities through our daily ‘Number Talks’, focussing on strategies to deal with multiplication.

Health & Wellbeing

Our focus during H&W for term 4 will be Neurodivergency. We will be looking at:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Tourettes Syndrome
  • Dyslexia

We will also be discussing how learners are unique and the different ways that people respond to certain situations.

PE

In PE, we will be improving our skills in batting based games. To improve these skills, we will be taking part in:

  • Golf
  • Cricket
  • Rounders

IDL

Our topic this term will be connected to our novel study and focussed around Chocolate. We will be discussing –

  • How Chocolate is made
  • Where it grows
  • How it gets to Britain
  • Fairtrade
  • Melting and Freezing points
  • Mayan Gods

And much more

As part of this topic, pupils will be given the opportunity to take part in paired and group research projects to work on their collaboration skills and improving their communication.

ICT

We are going to enhance our coding skills by using code.org and working through a series of lessons which develop our understanding of the language used in coding.
